Never been tazed (fortunately), but been OC’ed twice in training: once by a local PD as a trainee, and once at FLETC in a CITP class in ‘07. The local PD OC training was simple; they just sprayed it in our faces, had us do some pushups, and then we cleaned it off with soapy water.

No disrespect to Joe, but as someone who did accreditation audits for years I could not disagree more! “National accreditation” sounds to the uninformed like its the best, but it is not. National accreditation means its only recognized by an accreditation council that is approved by the US Dept...

This! I got into uniformed LE in the early 2000s, then went federal. I got out of full-time LE a year or 2 before the Ferguson shooting affected everything about the job. I don’t recognize the job now to what I did (and it hasn’t been that long ago). But I was among the last generation of LEOs...

While I haven’t worked for any of those 3 agencies (nor have any special insider knowledge of them), I believe you’ll have to re-up your APOSTC certification in their refresher/lateral course. I went through it myself in 2011 (it was a 2-weeks course then), and can answer any questions about it...

I’m going to shoot you straight here (so if I say something that offends you, orangebottle, please exercise maturity and see the actual intention of this post is to help).

You do seem to be unnecessarily critical of the department’s motor program, and Iowa’s post was 100% on the money....

  • Exactly. In Alabama law (and comparable in other states), one can only use deadly force if there is an imminent threat to you or someone around you of deadly force or serious bodily harm (the example often given to illustrate serious bodily harm is if someonce took a chop at you with an ax, it may not...

  • This training course is intended to be no-cost (i.e. free). We’re trying to develop allies in LE who have the skill sets to partner with us to tackle insurance fraud crimes, not make a profit....

  • That’s a good idea. For example, decent number of arson cases also involve insurance fraud, which could open up a variety of free resources to the LEO if they recognize the red flags of insurance fraud behind it and reach out to an SIU or NICB.

    I’ll welcome feedback from...

  • Insurance fraud training for LEOs in your state

    Guys & gals,

Long story short: I’m a former (full-time) LEO - still work part-time as a sworn LEO - who now works for an insurance company’s special investigative unit (SIU). I’m drafting a curriculum for a 6-hr advanced training class at a local police academy training LEOs how...
