If I recall correctly ATF, HSI, and USMS conduct taser training in their follow-on Agency training.

I work as a 1811 near an AFB. The DoD 0083s that I have interacted with are either retired guys who like the easy gig or younger guys looking to get their foot in the door. My (limited) understanding is that they guys do not receive perks like other Federal LE such as off-duty carry, retirement, LEAP/OT,...

No standard timeline it seems. Just dependent on the office and recruiter you are working with.

Always possible, but I've never heard of it actually happening. Especially with an agency like DEA which is needing 100s of Agents over the next 2-3 years to break even with retirements.

I was an NG intel analyst assigned to HSI for about a year. The new guy from the academy rolled in and started working cases. Obviously, these weren't huge super complex cases or anything. He also was passed around from case agent to case agent for various duties in order to gain more experience....

I was an IOI for about 2 years before jumping over to 1811 with another agency. The job is great, lots of Tele-work (before COVID made that the standard), fairly easy and straight forward work, journeyman GS-13. Vast majority of IOIs were prior ATF analysts or employees or retired state/local LE....

I work for a DCIO as an 1811. Besides DCIS, it seems to me that we (OSI, CID, NCIS) have much higher turn over than our DOJ and DHS counterparts.
It is my opinion that this is caused by middle and upper management being military officers who have little to no criminal investigative experience...
