replied to Familiy life for FLETC Glynco, GA
Pretty much this. My class had a student who moved family down to the area temporarily. Weather interrupted our training which ultimately caused some problems for said trainee's off center living situation. Just something to think about....

Do something like that with my agency and you will be fired and most often prosecuted. Now you are barely legal age to hire and wonder how long you will be on the naughty list. If I were you I would look elsewhere for work and your future. Maybe circle back in 10+ years if you still have the bug...

replied to Are all law enforcement officers cops?
I always thought of cops as the people who show up when 911 is called. I don't consider myself a cop. I don't wear a uniform and for the most part I appear to be unarmed unless I am involved in an enforcement action. A law enforcement officer yes but not an cop. I know not every state is this way...

  • I was growing a beard before I interviewed for my agency. Getting to shave pre interview was part of my motivation to get further in the hiring process. I told myself I couldn't get rid of the beard until I had a legit in person interview for an 1811 position. I was looking like king Leonidas before...

replied to Perceptions of British policing
All I know is what I have seen in the documentary on British policing called Hot Fuzz. Seems like a cool gig.

Mom's dad joined the Navy to get off the farm in 1938. Was in the Pacific the whole time. Found out late in his life he was in Tokyo Bay when the end of the war was being signed on the Missouri I believe it was. He was on a different ship but their and a part of that scene. He held many secrets...

  • I registered within the 30 days of my 18th birthday. I believe it's required to be registered if you apply for federal student aid as a male. Not sure why but I was aware of it for years before I turned 18. Don't remember anyone my age who didn't know about it. Graduated HS in the late 1990s. ...

    replied to Past drug use?
I would ask why you had the card? Most likely you have a condition that LE agencies won't want to hire you with or you lied in order to get the card. Either way not good.

Cocaine use is a whole separate issue. Some agency's are ok with long ago and or limited use. Some will never...

replied to 2019 Shutdown, Part II
Have all your use or lose scheduled in writing and approved before the end of the 23 pay period. They tried to jerk around all the agents in my agency because typically we don't get written approval. We put our leave on the group calendar and if it's a problem the sup lets us know. Ultimately mine...

  • I don't see much of anything that would put you ahead of any other 22 year old here in CA and to be hired at 22 here is pretty rare. When I was hired as a local I was 29. That just happened to be the average age of hire in CA at the time. Don't know what it is now. I can't think of a single local...

replied to what do you drive off duty?
When I worked as a local that was the department's rule. If your vehicle had a particular equipment violation then you couldn't stop drivers for the same issue. Window tint and front plate were the two big ones....
