    replied to SoCal Pay
I frequently try to talk myself into moving back - usually in Nov when it starts to snow. But my base is 120k (145 at the end of this five year contract). My house on 6 wooded acres is 200k. I will leave with a full pension of 70-80k a year at 43 years old with 20 years on and God willing about a mil...

That’s what I figured. As much as I miss family, friends, food and the weather - there is really no comparison between east coast and west coast when it comes to pay / benefits - especially after the CALPERS degradation....

I had a feeling there had to be something I was missing. I reviewed transparent California prior to the post but it isn’t that “transparent.” I appreciate the responses. I miss the weather but can’t justify the move back unless I could clear $200-250k a year according to cost of living calculators...

Example being - My friends at LAPD with five years on appear to make 90k a year with a subpar pension plan (with questionable funding) and a house in a decent area running 650-750k+ while I work in upstate NY, make 120k+ a year with a much better pension plan, and a nice house costs 200k. I feel like...

    started a topic SoCal Pay

    SoCal Pay

I periodically review salaries and benefits for SoCal agencies and they seem artificially low. Out east - our contracts / MOUs often include “hidden money” or other forms of compensation (FTO pay, hazard duty pay, location pay, etc.) Do most SoCal agencies work this way? Are cops really making 90-100k...

  • If I remember correctly what your referring to is the written psych test. You can’t study for it. It’s questions like how happy are you, how sad are you, etc. Only advice is be consistent. Trying to game the system will result in you failing it. If you crazy - you crazy. Just embrace it.

They usually only have a 2-3 week break between classes. But I believe the reason your hearing such a wide range is because the NYS budget has yet to be passed. And we have a huge deficit last I checked - so don’t quit your job just yet. The democrats would rather fund free college education than...

I just checked - A 20 year NYC Trooper is at 139k without any OT, etc. Though it’s obviously subject to change - there were troopers in NYC last year still on probation (80kish base pay) making over 200k last year with OT.

What is NYPDs top pay? Last I checked the top pay was quite a bit different. Depends on what kind of work you want to do, if you want to go through another academy, and if you want to live in NYC. I can tell you there are significantly more NYPD to SP vs SP to NYPD. SP NYCs PBA rep is a former NYPDer...

Don’t be deterred if it’s truly what you want. It’s a good job if law enforcement is what you wanna do. Just be aware of what your getting into. Good luck.
