I watched it a few hours ago. I only go to the cinema about once every 2 years. I had heard good things about this movie, but I wasn't planning on seeing it in the cinema. Then I read some comments about it on facebook, from a friend:
"just saw American Sniper,,,, I am speechless"
"Its tremendous, best film I have seen in decades"
"Keep in mind that it is a true story about a real live American war hero. I had a very emotional reaction to it. Everyone walked out of the theater in absolute dead silence."
That sold me on watching it in the cinema. I think it's a great movie. It feels like a great movie. But I just read Debbie Schlussel's review, and she didn't like it much. I respect her opinions a lot and she made some valid criticisms. To some extent, with this movie, it is possible to get out of it what you want to get out of it. The combat scenes looked real, they didn't look like "Hollywood". The actor who plays Chris Kyle was convincing (it did not seem like acting). The other actors were good, too. There is no "cleverness" in this movie: it's just a true story being told, without any embellishment or embedded messages. Nothing like the anti-military bias in the movie "Avatar" (where the men with uniforms and guns are all bad, dumb, arrogant & greedy, while the Naavi are all peaceful, harmonious, and wise)

Overall, it is a good movie but I just don't see it winning awards. The fake baby scene actually made several people laugh the second time I saw it. The fake deer scene, as small as it was didn't help either. Also, the other Navy Seals weren't impressive as in other movies of late depicting SEALS, probably to not overshadow Cooper's depiction.
This is neither here nor there but anyone making a movie with Texas registered vehicles needs to remember to put a registration sticker and an inspection sticker on the lower left of the vehicle's windshield.

Just saw it with the wife. It was very powerful. I don't understand how anyone can say that it glamorizes war - if anything, it shows the shytty side of it.Originally posted by RSGSRTWe've reached a point where natural selection doesn't have a chance in hell of keeping up with the procreation of imbeciles.

I'm still too angry to look at my own uniform to even think about watching any movies. This one might be the exception but I am much to angry with some things I'm not going to get into to watch ANY of the movies Hollywood has put out. Like I said, I think my uniform is still hanging on the hanger I put it on the last time I took my boots off. I think my boots are still beneath my uniform from over almost 3 years ago. I know there are some veterans around that probably understand the feeling I have. Anyway, I hope everyone can enjoy it. I marvel at the dedication to duty by ALL special operators.

One movie critic (whom I highly respect) is the deeply conservative Debbie Schlussel. I was absolutely amazed that she didn't like the movie. Here are her specific criticisms of the movie:

Pamela Geller is another conservative. I respect her a lot for her work exposing Islam's agenda (it's not a religion of peace, folks). Here's what she had to say about "American Sniper":
"Longtime readers of Atlas Shrugs know how much I love movies — not the dreck that’s served up today, but the great golden age of Hollywood, when America was a proud force for good. Every Saturday night, I run a movie from that era that reminds my readers who and what we are and could be.
Tonight I saw a film that all Americans should see. Finally, a modern film that made me proud to be an American: American Sniper. It tells the truth about the war we are in and the savages we are fighting (a word used repeatedly, I might add).
Every film about war about and since Vietnam, with few exceptions, has been a left-wing hate-filled attack on America. Proud, patriotic films about American heroism and goodness have gone the way of all great American institutions, such as individualism, liberty, and capitalism under the decades-long siege by the left.
Clint Eastwood can join the pantheon of great American directors such as Frank Capra and John Ford, proud Americans who loved their country and made films that reflected the culture of the good. We owe Clint Eastwood a huge debt.
Depraved leftists like Max Blumenthal hate the movie without even having seen it. Blumenthal said that Chris Kyle was “just a popular mass murderer.†No surprise — it’s what the left does: hate the good for being the good."

Then we have a voice from the left, criticizing the movie; I found this viewpoint to be interesting and perhaps partially valid:

I have yet to see the movie (though I want to), however there is a group on Tumblr (a social media site, popular with young, "empowered" youth, that are "politically aware" - i.e. socialists & liberals) that is boycotting the movie on the grounds that it fosters an anti-Islam, anti-Muslim atmosphere.
Personally, I can't wait to see it, and glad that it seems fairly well received.REINSTATE THE TRIG
