I have no problem with this. I liked the Bourne movies, but I've always considered Damon a mediocre actor at best .He SUCKED in True Grit...I never thought ANYONE could play that role worse than Glen Campbell, but Damon suceeded. I've seen A LOT of things that Renner's been in (including The Unsuals and an episode of House), and he's shown himself to be a good actor in all of them. He was a pretty good tough badass in The Town and, while I've never seen him do anything Bourne-esque, I have confidence that he can pull it off.
I have to wonder, though...is the new movie really, REALLY bad? Why else would Damon have jumped ship, if he wasn't expecting this one to tank?

    *ETA*
Just watched The Town again last night, and I think I found where my issue comes from: Renner plays a tough guy very well, but there's a BIIIIIIG difference between "unstable thug with a gun" and "fist-throwing BAMF super assasin". Eh...we'll seen.

I really like Renner, but I'll miss Damon as Jason Bourne.

And we still have Bond! Daniel Craig is fantastic. It's not his fault his second movie sucked. Casino Royal is one of my favorite Bond movies.

I have to agree, I'm going to have a hard time with anyone else but Damon being Bourne. I'll give it a chance, though.
    Can your stepson act?

Not happy with this decision. I have actually read all of the books. The movie has gone pretty far from the books. But I enjoy them well I did. Jason Bourne is Matt Damon no one else.

Not happy about this and I wont watch it.

Just found out who Jeremy Renner is. At least if they're changing actors, Sarge is okay with him. He's the dude that had the lead role in The Hurt Locker, The Town and played one of the rogue cops in S.W.A.T.

It makes sense that they are going to try and make this a long running franchise. The only real topic that is left is Nikki's relationship with Jason Bourne. If you remember Bourne Ultimatium, after Noah had Desh try to kill Jason and Nikki, they were sitting in the diner when Nikki was telling Jason how it was hard to see him come in. She asked, "You really don't remember, do you?" and placed her hand on his, when the two cops walked in, resulting in Jason saying they had to leave. They never finished that thought. If they just wanted to do one more, I'm sure that The studio and Damon could have come to an agreement. With Damon saying he is open to playing Bourne later, and the studio finding someone else to play Bourne, at least in the mean time, says that they are going to make this into a longer fanchise.

In a way, Im excited to see more of these films. I'm not familiar with the guy they chose, but I'm willing to give him a chance. The Bourne Identity was an excellent spy, espionage, action movie. Great story, great acting, great writing, great action, great settings, awesome fight and chace scenes. They have managed to make two sequels that were just as exciting as the first. The fact that they think they can make more, and keep the bar high, then I am very excited.

I know that Greengrass and Damon wanted to do a military movie (Green Zone) prior to making any more Boune movies. I am glad they are doing more Boune movies, I want to know the connection between Borne and Nikki.

It sounds like they want to do many more Bourne movies. Could this be "our" Bond?
I was thinking the same thing...Jason Borne is our James Bond...

Jeremy Renner Will Be Your New 'Bourne' Star

    by: Will Leitch

Four years ago, Jeremy Renner was playing second-fiddle to Minnie Driver in critically reviled movies. (And starring in canceled television series.) Then he made a little movie called "The Hurt Locker." Since then, he has been nominated for two Oscars, been cast as a superhero and is anchoring two of the most valuable action franchises on earth. We'd say making "Locker" was a smart career move.

Last night, Deadline announced the news everyone had been waiting for: The role of the superspy character replacing Matt Damon's Jason Bourne in the "Bourne" franchise has been offered to Renner, who's expected to join on as soon as scheduling issues are resolved. Universal had been looking at several other actors -- including "Animal Kingdom"'s Joel Edgerton and Garrett Hedlund from "Tron: Legacy" -- but they landed on Renner for "The Bourne Legacy." "Legacy" is written and directed by Tony Gilroy (who wrote all three of the "Bourne" screenplays and also wrote and directed "Michael Clayton") and is expected to start filming this September, with a release date around August 2012.

Renner, who, again, was unknown only three years ago, is taking on projects like a starving man suddenly put in front of a buffet. (Even though he's new to the scene, he has been around a long time; he turns 40 this year.) He just finished filming "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" with Tom Cruise -- it is anticipated that he will take over that franchise, though he's actually only nine years younger than Cruise -- and he also will play "Hawkeye" in the upcoming "Avengers movie." (He's said to have a cameo as Hawkeye in this summer's "Thor" as well.)

Finding the right actor was key for Universal to keep the "Bourne" franchise alive. When director Paul Greengrass announced he was done with the "Bourne" films, star Matt Damon said he would leave the franchise too, claiming he would only work with Greengrass. (He has since left the door ajar for "five years from now.") Universal couldn't let such a profitable franchise die, though, so they gave Gilroy the director's chair and set about casting a new lead, someone who is not Jason Bourne, but is certainly cut from his proverbial cloth. That person was Renner. Hence the "Legacy" of the title: The hope is that someday Damon and Renner can team for a future Super Bourne Film. (The legacy aspect is still strange, though; Damon is just one year older than Renner.)

But yes: We have gone from never having heard of Jeremy Renner to having him take over all aspects of entertainment, in three years. Look out: Someone's gonna cast him as Batman next.
