  • Did you ever watch CHiPs?

Did anyone ever watch Chips back in the day? Use to be a favorite I use to watch everyday with my dad. Anyone else?

I watched as much as I could. Even the new remake of it, which I think only had one episode. It was all great!
For every one hundred men you send us,
Ten should not even be here.
          Eighty are nothing but targets.
          Nine of them are real fighters;
We are lucky to have them, they the battle make.
Ah, but the one. One of them is a warrior.
And he will bring the others back.

I thought they only did the remake in 99 ?

I know that they are supposed to be filming a big screen version with Wilmer Valderma (?) as Ponch..

That show was like full employment for stuntmen, back then. I used to joke with the real CHP guys when we were in line for booking at LAPD Central Jail...."So, what are you doing on your days off, roller-disco? Hang-gliding? Parasailing? BMX or cliff-diving?"

It drove me nuts for a couple of reasons, most notably:
                        • The fact that for the entire run of the show, only one guy drew his gun, and that drawn gun was off-camera.
                        • The way Ponch and Jon would be first on the scene of a multi-car pileup, I mean like a six-story pyramid of mangled steel and tires, then the first CHP patrol officer would arrive and they'd say, "You got this?" The CHP officer would say, "Yeah, I got this!" And off Ponch and Jon would speed away on their M/C's without leaving any word as to what happened, which way a particular vehicle had travelled, who caused the collision, etc.
                        • Wasn't there a Cadet, or LE Explorer-type kid who got to ride a motor?
"You're never fully dressed without a smile."

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.

Three things I know for sure: (1) No bad deed goes unrewarded, (2) No good deed goes unpunished, and (3) It is entirely possible to push the most devoted, loyal and caring person beyond the point where they no longer give a 5h!t.

Well, it was a comedy, wasn't it?

I used to watch CHIPS all the time when I was younger and living back east. I also used to wonder why the "highway patrol" was always on the surface streets, I thought that was kind of unusual.

Now I live and work out west and drive the same freeways that Ponch and Jon used to drive (2, 210, 118, etc). It's kinda cool to see how those same freeways have changed, yet stayed the same.

On a related note, I also used to watch Adam-12 all the time when I was a kid, then moved out west and worked at the same station as Reed and Malloy; also kinda cool.
