  • amatuer MMA for PAL

Im running classes soon, and tournaments hopefully at our PAL chapter in Milwaukee. Fightleauge.org is a website that will show the rules we are using, the style is actually called "pankration"
My son and I have already competed nationally and internationally in these events.
I would like to get other PAL chapters involved across the country.

pankraton, isn't that where there is only open hand contact, basically slapping each other, or some places not striking at all?

full contact strikes to the body and legs(standing and on the ground) no head strikes. all takedowns and throws allowed, holddowns and submisions allowed.

good competition for some one just starting up and beginners, but not for me. Just can't do the whole no head contact, kinda defeats the purpose for me, especially since I mainly train muay thai. good luck with it though!

It is a good gateway into MMA, keep in mind, this is a venue that is appealing for children, teens, and older competitors. Belive me it is plenty challenging.

I dont doubt it's challenging, I was saying almost the exact same thing as you, more for younger people or beginners, which isn't me, thats all. Good luck

well, ive had my first two classes so far, about 6 kids showed consistently for both. I brought my 11yr old son, who has 6 years of competitive judo, 1 year of folkwrestling, and 2 pankration tournaments under his belt.
At first we had a lot of the 13year old and 14 year old "troublemakers" that were disruptive and pretty rough while training, Those kids got the oppurtunity for a match with my son, who had no trouble tapping those kids out.
The rest of class went smoothly as I had the kids rapt attention. the basics of stand up, clinch, and ground were covered, but it never seems like i have enough time.
Hopefully, my teaching will get more orginized over time. Ill keep you all updated as this program developes.
