  • Question Totally Unrelated to L/E

Cingular offers a ringtone that I want for my cellphone. The problem is that I am with another carrier so Cingular can't sell it to me. If you go to the Cingular website you can play the ringtone on your computer's speakers. My question here is, can any of you tech types tell me how to capture the ringtone via that audio feed and convert it to an MP3 file?

    TIA

Can you right click the link and do a save as?

When I renewed my Cingular I had them throw in the software for my phone, in the bundle inculdes a program that takes any media file I have lets me crop it and upload it for use as a ringtone, so I can just pull from my music collection. In over a year I've gotten 6 song clips on there, but the software actually lets me make use of the camera phone feature. Sorry don't have much more than that.

Nope. The Cingular website is configured so you can't do a "Save As".

Once I get the tone I will have no problem converting it to an MP3 and sending it to my phone. The problem is capturing it from the audio of the Cingular website.

Feel free if you want to take a look:

Hmmm, I think I have a movie of that cat, I'll have to dig.

Can you pull audio off that?

Otherwise maybe you could search for sound files?

Someone was able to download and convert it for me. They also pointed me to free software that performs the conversion if I want additional captures.

          Thanks all.

So, what's your number so we can test it?

You know, if I was still working I wouldn't dare to put something like that on my phone. Imagine being at the scene of a major incident, next to a crowd of other cops or members of the public and have your phone go off with that ringer.

OTOH, now that I am retired, I no longer have to be dignified. (G)
