Governor Taft is balking at the idea of cutting the state gas tax to help tame prices at the pump.

Even though prices topped $3.00 dollars a gallon in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, Taft said he has a problem cutting the state's tax of 28-cents a gallon, money that pays for state road and bridge work. He said there is no guarantee station owners would lower their prices by that much.

Georgia has already suspended it's gas tax, and governors in Pennsylvania and Tennessee are considering doing the same.
