I used to attend the Inkslinger's Ball every year back in my early 20's. I was working for a medical supply company in Irvine, CA at the time and we always had a booth set up there. The tattoo artists bought their needles and sterilization equipment from our company. I volunteered to go and "mix" with the crowd ~ young, attractive and outgoing ~ I was "business bait."
My tat is located on my right leg, 3" above my ankle. The tat is about 6" long and was custom designed for me by a friend who happens to be a wonderful artist. I had Pat at Laguna Beach Tattoo ink me up and it turned out awesome ! It's a tat of a Great Horned Owl in the middle of a native american mandella. The tat symbolizes spiritual rebirth and medical healing. Pretty deep huh....
I plan to get more tats....just have to save up for them first !!!

You are most welcome !!!
Ed Hardy is well known in the tattooing world. Met him at the Inkslingers Ball awhile back !!! Anyone working in his shops will definately hook you up right !!!
I hate to critique another person's tattoo art design. It will be on your body and is your own personal expression ~ I have no right to judge that. Just make sure whatever design you choose, you think about the long-term placement and meaning of the ink to you. If it's just a "phase" tattoo, you will want it removed within 5 years....guaranteed !!!

I like the design but I would think it would be too small when on the arm unless your stacked. You might try bringing the wings up like a firebird so you can get a bigger bird on your arm.

First and foremost...make SURE this is a tattoo design that you plan to love for the REST of your life. So often people run out and get a tattoo because it's cool or they want one, but in a few years, they hate it and have it removed. Make sure the tat has meaning to you just beyond the next year or two.
Elaborate tatoos with a lot of black/color are very expensive and take awhile to finish. Make sure you know the costs of the tattoo upfront and have a decent pain threshold. Pain is variable from person to person ~ what may be tolerable to one may be unbearable to another. If you have a low pain threshold - go with a simpler tat design or you'll end up stopping mid tattoo and having incomplete work.
When you're ready to get a tattoo, shop around for the best artist. My tat was done by one of the best artists at Laguna Beach Tattoo and my skin ink reflects that. You get a newbie or an amateur and you may end up having to get the tat redone. Ask to see the artist's portfolio of work ~ the great tat artists have this readily available for their clients to view.
Lastly...take your ideas to an art student, artistic friend, etc. to draw up your tat design. It will save you big bucks and time. The tat artist will "trace" the finished design you bring in onto carbon paper and tat it on your bod. If you ask the tat artist to come up with your design himself, you will be paying for his "design time" and that can add up very quickly !!!
Hope this info helps...good luck !!!

My tattoo idea
I'm sure many here are opposed to tattoos and I believe many departments are too as far as visible in uniform tats go. I think I want to get one though, I'd have it done most likely on my upper arm between my shoulder and my elbow (the classic place to have it done). The design, I stole from a band's tshirt design. They aren't too popular of a band, but if you're into the style of music they play you'd definitely know of them. Anyways. I took their design and through thinking and asking opinions came up with an idea somewhat different. Here it is:
Alright, I'm thinking maybe having the bird inside a circle or diamond shape (obviously a white bird on skin can't be seen), with like a boarder around it maybe being like rope or something of that nature. The bird was originally just plain all white on black. I added in the red/blue stripes behind the star. Also, if you notice the star is flipped upside down. I'd most likely have that flipped right side up. I was thinking also maybe having the olive branch and the arrows in color as well. I kind of want to keep it simplistic, but I'm open to ideas if it makes it RAD hah. When/if I actually decide to go through with it I'll obviously take my ideas to a tattooist (is that a word?) and have him draw me up something and make suggestions.
Anyways, comments? Yay or nay?Last edited by Guest; 09-10-2005, 06:25 PM.Tags: None
