  • LAPD Helicopter ride?

    Hello everyone!

I'll be on my 10th Anniversary trip in May, 2015 and was wondering if anyone had a good contact with any LAPD guys to possibly do a ride-along? Not sure if they allow it but I wanted to check here.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jamie

I know they have, but IIRC it's usually for fellow air support cops from other jurisdictions. BUT, it never hurts to ask.

Is this just for you, or are you trying to take the missus with you? That may NOT work.

I would suggest writing a letter outlining your request to:

    Commanding Officer
    LAPD Air Support Division
    555 Ramirez Street
    Los Angeles, CA 90012

LAPDonline-dot-org, can probably tell you who the current C/O of ASD is, should you wish to personalize your letter.

Three things I know for sure: (1) No bad deed goes unrewarded, (2) No good deed goes unpunished, and (3) It is entirely possible to push the most devoted, loyal and caring person beyond the point where they no longer give a 5h!t.

      Thanks Keith,

It is with the Mrs. but I'll write a letter and the worst than can happen is a "no." I appreciate the info.

      Thanks again and stay safe,

As with anything else, there are private helo's who can take you on a city tour. AND, IIRC out of Van Nuys airport, there's even a private, fixed-wing, pilot whose plane is set up with a private bedroom "suite", so that not only do you tour Los Angeles, but you join the Mile High club, as well.

Do they charge by the minute per chance?

They wouldn't make enough to pay for their aviation gas if I was on board.
