I looked this up because it's kind of cool in a weird way. Turns out, they were just building the bridge, and the wooden substructure caught fire - probably from a random acetylene torch. Still pretty impressive.
reminds me of 2002 when a tanker accident under malfunction junction in bham destroyed that bridge. Can't find pictures of it while it was burning, but here is the aftermath.
