Jim Karnes, the longest-serving sheriff in Franklin County history, died this morning, a little more than a month after sharing the news that he had pancreatic cancer.
He was 71 years old.
Karnes was first elected sheriff in 1992 but had worked for the county since 1963. He died at Ohio State University Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends, about 12:30 p.m.
Truly saddening. He was an amazing Sheriff and man.
