TEMPE, AZ - Tempe police made a "once-in-a-career" capture Thursday when they nabbed a wallaby named "Wesley" snooping in a neighbor's window.

According to Tempe police Lt. Scott Smith, the marsupial was spotted by a driver who thought he'd seen a small kangaroo on 13th Street around 8:30 p.m.

Patrol officers did indeed find the wallaby outside a residence on 13th Street between Priest and Hardy drives.

Smith said Wesley was looking in a window of the home at the homeowners' pet dog on the other side of the glass.

The wallaby, estimated to be 2 feet tall and 35 pounds, was friendly and cooperative, Smith said.

"The wallaby was docile, it looked like it had been around humans before," Smith said.

The homeowners and police were able to corral Wesley in a large dog kennel until his owner, who lives a few doors down, arrived.

"You could tell the wallaby was very comfortable around the owner, and very relieved," Smith said.

No violation could be established, Smith said, and Wesley and his owner were reunited.
