Me and my girlfriend are taking a cruise out of New York in the first week of September. Its heading to Orlando first and we are going to Universal Studios, after that it goes to Great Stirrup Cay and then Nassau. Im trying to put together an itinerary for Nassau and was hoping I could get some ideas. Thanks guys.

Look into Atlantis on Paradise Island. It's a short cab ride from where the cruise ships dock. It's a resort but I know at least some of it is open to the public. If you have several days on Nassau (which I doubt,) I'd consider looking into what it would cost to catch a plane out to the Abacos or one of the other outer islands. It's VERY different from Nassau.

been to Nassau twice, the port shopping experience is busy - don't take pictures of the merchandise, the vendors don't want you to turn them in for using copyrighted materials in their works..... Atlantis is cool, do a little gambling, take the tour....there are plenty of water taxis to take you near there from the port, prices for those are not bad, the boat workers do love tips and will ask for them constantly.

Are you going on the Carnival Pride or a different ship?
Either way go here and read up on tips
www.cruisecritic.com
Second, dont buy any excursions through the ship! They are over priced and you can book the same thing for usually half the price either in person or in advance on the internet.
If you drink, call the cruise line before hand and ask for their bon voyage service. You can then order most any hard liquor and have it placed in your stateroom before you sail. It will cost more then it does on land BUT when a normal drink on the ship goes for 9-14 bucks a pop its worth it! Also while you cant bring liquor on board you can bring sodas, water and 1 bottle of wine per person!
I just sailed to Nassau, Freeport and Cape Canaveral last month on the Pride so feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

Stay away from the free beach around the corner from the port (Junkanoo.) Criminals watch for you to leave your stuff unattended. You will be offered weed while in the damn water. Walk quickly after exiting the port, cause you will get bombarded with people trying to sell you everything. The STRAW market it a sham full of crap. The rest of the city had some nice areas and Atlantis is nice as hell.Being a good street cop is like coming to work in a wet suit and peeing in your pants. It's a nice warm feeling, but you're the only one who knows anything has happened.

Been over 30 times. How long are you in Nassau for? I would just buy a day pass for the Atlantis. Hit up their aquariums, digs, pools, slides, beaches. Watch out for the excursions your cruise ship offer because most of them are limited.
I don't know if you still can do it, but I know you could just buy a room at the comfort suites for about $160. They share privileges with the Atlantis. It's next to the Atlantis so it's not out of the way.
If you want a real cuban cigar.. get one from the shop in the Atlantis. The ones sold at the markets are mostly fakes.
I usually stay on Cable Beach at the Wyndham. It's not nearly as nice as the Atlantis, but it's a lot cheaper and the casino treats me like royalty. You have to gamble millions for the Atlantis to give you anything.Last edited by jannino; 04-20-2011, 06:50 PM.
