  • Acer computers/products?...

Does anyone own an Acer computer (laptop, or notebook), or knows anyone who owns Acer computer/products?...If so how do you (or they) like it?...I'm not familiar w/ Acer or their products...I'm looking to buy one of thier notebook, Acer Aspire One 10.1" Netbook...

I went to Walmart and Target and saw a few of their computers, they looked ok...

    Thanks in advance!...

IIRC it is one of those budget buy type companies. Not much in the way of "wow" factor. I had a monitor from them. It did its job as a monitor, but really the difference in quality between it and my new LG monitor are night and day.

What are you looking to do with your laptop SFG? Surf the web, type documents, games?

Acer is just Acer. They're newer to the US market and have bought up Gateway and E-Machines.

I'm just looking for a notebook for now...I just want to do basic stuff, surf the web, write papers, install some programs, I know there's no disk drive with notebooks, but you can still buy programs online...I'm not a computer gamer or anything like that, so I really don't care about all that...I was also curious about Acer, like I said, I was looking at some of their products and was wondering about them...The notebook I want to buy is only $279.99, which is not bad...

Acer appears to be ok. A word of suggestion, buy a little larger computer then you currently need. I do not mean size of the computer but memory, storage, capabilities, etc.

Well if it were my money I was spending I would buy a budget Dell or HP laptop. You can find them cheap enough. Not sure what your budget is, but I am not one to gamble on things like electronics.

Check out Best Buy or both Dell and HP's website and build and price a laptop. Also Dell has an outlet store that has laptops that have been refurbished by Dell and then sold at a bargain.

Whatever you do, get a warranty and get an external HD to back up your data. Those that do not get these things are left wanting when they need them.

You have a point...The thing is I don't want to spend a lot right now...I'm still looking around, but I've never really heard about Acer...

i have one.. i got it for free from a casino because i have a gambling problem. my wife uses one to get on facebook, organize the pics, and play yahoo games. i don't like it, but you sure can't beat the battery life on those things.

my FIL has a HP similar to it and my wife seems to like it better for some reason.

i'm a fan of toshiba and sony laptops... i know toshiba has one for $280 that gets solid reviews

I believe that Toshiba is going out of business.

Acer is okay. Never had a computer but I had a big screen that served me good for a long time. HP is the way to go out of what I saw mentioned in the thread (I skimmed). Toshiba always sucked

I never had a problem with my old Acer, which I had for 2 years... the only reason I got a new one was I had a smaller hard drive and needed bigger (I take too many pictures!) and because I found an awesome deal. So far so good with my new one.

Look around though.... you can get laptops these days for not much more than what you're looking at for the netbook.

I have an Acer Aspire (17") laptop. It is ok I guess.I am FaRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR,from a puter knowledgeble person.I do know I dont like that I cant view powerpoints most of the time, because I dont have the gazillion digit code to enter(you can view, but not hear) also I got a virus (there goes my midget porn),and it was almost impossible to clear, took it to the shop and they wiped it clean and now it wont recognize my Kodak printer and other minor problems.BUT,for 500 bucks I guess it was a fair buy.
