EL DORADO HILLS, Calif.

The teacher wrote an "A" on the student's test, but wrote the real grade -- an "F" -- in the gradebook.

A local student says he ate a dead fly on a dare from his teacher when he was promised a good grade, but was angered when he said the teacher went back on his word.

Stephen Zeldag, a student at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, said his Algebra II teacher crushed a fly between his hands during class last month and dared any of his students to eat it.

"He said, 'If anybody eats this fly then I will give them an A on this test,'" Stephen said. He volunteered and swallowed the fly, sealing the deal with a handshake with his teacher.

"I didn't think he was joking at all," he said.

Stephen didn't get an A on his test: He got an F, with a score of nine out of 46.

"He said that I told you I'd give you an A on your test, so here's your A, but it's not going in the gradebook," Stephen said.

The teacher even wrote, "Here is your A on your test," when he returned the paper to the student.

Stephen claims he realized what he thought was a deal was really just a joke at his expense.

When we contacted the principal at Oak Ridge High School to get their side of the story, the principal said it was the first time he heard about it. Stephen said he was afraid to tell his principal because his teacher would punish him.

"I usually study, but not this one," Stephen said. "I thought it would be an easy way out."

Stephen said he did ask to retake the test but the teacher refused.

We did try to talk to the teacher in question, but the principal said he would not be able to comment. The principal said he is launching an investigation into the incident.

Haha This kid got a 9 out of 42.

But looks like this teacher was a real smartass. If you follow the link, the teacher just wrote on his test on a separate sheet of paper "Here is your A".

I really don't know what could be done of by the school. Force the teacher to give him an A for eating a fly and I know the teacher won't get fired over this incident.

Kitty, you are so right. I wasn't good in math, but let me tell you, I had enough intelligence to still try and pull a decent grade without relying on a "promise" by a teacher. Still, regardless of the lack of intelligence on the part of the kid, I wonder if the teacher could get in trouble for misconduct?

KSU....how do you like Kent State? I almost went there til I realized I was going to have to live on campus....

Kitty, I actually love it...well other than it being an UBER-LIBERAL college. A few of the main reasons I chose it were 1. it was not OSU and 2. the history of the college. Living on campus is ridiculous, I live in an apartment and pay $300 a week. Needless to say, in my last semester, I am moving to Fairlawn to pay less! Are you from Ohio, originally?

You must be over 21 because when I was looking at going there you had to be either 21 or a junior before you didn't have to live on campus......you could get waivers for not living on campus only if you lived at home. Add that with 12K a year for tuition only, I couldn't stomach Kent. But I had several friends that went there and liked it.

Yeah, I'll actually be 22 at the end of this month. It the one major thing that sucks here is the fact that tuition keeps rising as with faculty(President Lefton) raises but they are not increasing financial aid to help us students who can barely afford to come to school. I make an average of $5k a year, but mind you, I make too much and don't qualify for much financial aid. How is KS? I can't wait to move out of this state... I'm either moving west or south, seems like there is way more opportunity elsewhere.

Our grad ceremony wasnt until mid-June. By that time I had been living in KS for several weeks. I had just packed my car with what I could bring and left.

I actually have a good friend back in Ohio who has a degree from KSU. He's a smart, attractive, motivated typical guy. He CAN NOT find a job up there to save his life even with his four year degree. He's 27 or 28 now and hasnt been able to find a REAL job since he graduated college.

I know the whole area is dying. My folks still live in Canton, and theyre just watching the whole area die. Hoover left (or went bankrupt, I cant remember which) and other big companies have left too. Its bad everywhere....but worse than normal in Ohio.

Yep, my folks vote no too on levies...as would I if I lived there. I nearly literally slept through my entire HS 'career' and still got an 4.0. It was so easy I think a toilet seat could have graduated from GlenJoke. The district I went to school in was demanding another levy about a year ago.....added to the building levy they got about four years ago. My mom's property taxes went up again to pay for this BS when her hours are being cut and so is her pay. Theyre trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip. I could go on for days and days about the outright greed and stupidity of Canton and their schools, and their politicians, etc.

Well that area is mostly industrial. I know when I used to drive through Akron on my way to Cleveland, I'd see a bunch of closed down factories, power plants, quarries, trains, etc. I had a friends dad who also worked for the Ford plant in Medina or Brunswick (I think). Needless to say, plants like that are becoming a thing of the past too. I think if the area would embrace the 21st century, they'd have an easier time....lol. Secondly, most jobs up there dont require any sort of degree. I knew TWO people from HS who went on to get degrees (one of them was the friend I already mentioned). Only TWO. So it kind of sucks when you go to school for four years just to compete with people who've been in the industry the whole time. Plus, the employers dont want to pay you more because you have a degree when a degree doesnt matter to them. He got his degree in communications (or something like that) I believe. So its a degree that you could do just about anything with....
