OK, so my wife has been saving the pop tops from Coke cans since before we moved. Apparently, they were for the school or something. Does anybody know what in tarnation these are collected for? I would throw 'em out but I wouldn't want to end the universe or anything.

After I get my answer, feel free to ask your own ridiculous question. Meanwhile, though, I really do want to know why anyone would possible want these things.

Take them to the nearest Ronald McDonald House. They recycle them and put the money toward operating expenses. I have stayed in one of the Ronald McDonald House's when my kids were sick. It's well worth the donation.

My church collects them. So does the local children's hospital. As posted above, the alum is recycled and the proceeds go to help support the RM houses.

And I'm pretty sure they just use the pop tops instead of the whole can is because the tops take up a lot less room, but are still fairly "heavy" for recycling & money purposes.
