  • Security "Police"

Kind of a funny story that happened to me the other day. I pull up at the local 7-11 to grab a drink and leave out, when I so happen to see...dum dum dum...a man with a badge! It was a silver badge held on regular belt, so I decided to take a closer look (no gun, guy looked like a weirdo). So I'm "browsing" around and get a closer look...and guess what...it says security on it! I had a little chuckle and left the store...

Just because you didn't see the gun, doesn't mean it didn't exist.

What bothers me is, here in TN, dont know about other states, you can buy a a gold badge that says hand gun permit holder or something to that effect.

Was he a customer or was he LP for the store? Or was he LP for another store and just stopping by for a pop on the way to work? You are making some pretty big assumptions when you have no idea who the guy is or what he is doing.

Yea, I don't think anyone but SWORN LEO should wear any type of badge on plain clothes. Even Auxiliary/(most) Reserve here cannot even carry a badge off-duty, because we are not sworn, so why should security be wearing a badge in plain clothes. I would not want to be in any situation where someone "thinks" I am a sworn LEO, when in fact I'm not. It puts that security guard in a BAD position. A lot of what ifs. I just don't agree with people being able to buy a little golden badge, shield, star, etc if they are not LEO.

Internet must be down, or the forum broke as I failed to see the punch line in this story, or was this one of those things where we add to the story and see where it takes us.

I think the point he was trying to make is, there was a guy in plain clothes in a store wearing a badge on his belt, maybe attempting to look important. Maybe its a pet peeve of his. Personally my pet peeve is non-officers who open carry. IMO i think people who open carry are trying to prove something, why not just concealed carry?

But in a sentence he said the security guard had the badge on a "regular belt" So, I am concluding that the security guard was wearing plain clothes, since obviously, most badges are worn on the shirt if in an authorized uniform.

Maybe he was on the Geek Squad.
Being a good street cop is like coming to work in a wet suit and peeing in your pants. It's a nice warm feeling, but you're the only one who knows anything has happened.

I get annoyed with Security Guards at times but I don't beat them down. I could be in a fight for my life and pray some goof ball with a Security Badge on his belt comes to my aid. Heck I wouldn't care who helped me at that point. Just because mine says police don't make my any more important. Not knocking your post cause I see what you were saying. Just wanted to open your eyes some.

Arrested a drunk guy at ten a.m. in a laundromat flashing a security badge around. Found his fake resident alien ID card and got his real name out of him. A P.I. turned into a trip to county and a trip back to Mexico. We'll be seeing him again most likely, had an address out of Austin.
