  • Gas RC car

Does anyone know anything about gas RC cars ? I had my old one shipped to me and want to get an idea on the cost to get it running again.

    Thanks

I had one a while ago, a 1/10th scale rwd nitro off road truck. How much did you pay for it and what scale is it?? you can get a rtr kit for 300 bucks from a few places. Mine was a team associate.

I also got a nice RTR kit from LOSI that was 10th scale awd eletric onroad car for about 350. That thing was fast as hell too, i did a couple mods to it and it toped out at about 40mph(real mph not scale). It slamed in to a parked car when i was drifting it and snaped the sway bar.

http://www.towerhobbies.com/ Id recommend going there for parts, sign up for the mailing list and they send you coupons and stuff for the store like 20% whole purchases and stuff.

I've owned nitro and electric RC's and I know enough about them to know that unless you want to spend a lot of time tinkering with the thing you should go with electric. The nitro engines on the cars/trucks are so small that they flood easily flood and have very temperamental carburetors. Electric can be just as fast and with several extra batteries and a fast charger its may be the way to go. If you like the challenge of working on the car and find that sort of thing fun or relaxing then the nitro can be fun as an all around hobby, if you just want to drive the thing go electric.

So far as refurbing a nitro, if the thing is HPI then you are in good shape. Their parts are readily available at local shops and are fairly cheap. I had a Traxxas brand car and had to order replacement parts from the manufacturer . Replacing a few key parts on the old car shouldn't be too pricey maybe $100 depending on what parts you need.

Hpi is a good brand as well I forgot about them. I've heard good and bad things about traxxxs. Although they do seem to make decent 4x4 monster trucks.

And what he said is true about nitro vs electic. Electric cars are more fun, you can stick in a battery and go and not have to worry about tunning them or cleaning the engine and stuff. You can get a 2 pack of nihm batteries for around 20 bucks which is about what you pay for a couple gal of nitro but the batteries last a lot longer. And a good charger can take maybe 15min to charge a dead battery. So its nice.
Not to mention with the electric he power is always there and your not wasting gas when you your not pulling the tigger as opposted to nitro which will burn reguardless if you have the trottle on or not.

A good battery motor and proper gear set up you can compete with most nitros, unless your looking to hit the 100mph mark.

My mom refered to mine as "The Money Pit" unless you've got some spare cash laying around, don't bother with it..

I'd like to get one of those, along with a gas rc gas boat and plane. Today, I say the coolest, fastest rc gas airplane. The dude said he dropped 5k on the airplane. I was like whoo! Couple months salary for me, and that's before bills. After bills, I can afford one wing! I figure, in a year or two I could have one of those little suckers paid off! LOL

RC Drifting (reason i got into street cars)
              SG1
              SG4

200mph+ RC car (no it wasnt Fastwarded either look at the flags in the background blowing normal speed)

Heres some links to some decent RTR kits
I almost got one of these.
              Losi 8 nitro 1/8th buggy

This replaced the model i had which was a xxx-s 2.
              Losi 1/10th AWD electric car

              Team Associate 1/8th electric buggy

Your better off buying a RTR kit for your first rc since they come with decent controllers most the time, and a control can run you a pretty hefty price sometime. by the time you buy the crystals and stuff for the frequency's.
