Like a lot of you said the Black album was the last good stuff they had. But metal music itself is basically dead.

The music from bands like Kiss, Ratt, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Anthrax, Dokken,Megadeth, Kix, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc. just doesn't exist like it used to.

Even most of those bands like that have basically forgotten how to make music. It's not just Metallica but have you heard how BAD Motley Crue has gotten?

Their stuff is also nothing what it used to be and their last good album was Dr. Feelgood. Def Leppard has basically been awful since Steve Clark died.

I love the new Metallica album. It really puts me back into the high school days listening to this one like I did when Justice was running through my walkman tape player!

And sorry Robocop, have you SEEN Motley Crue in the last couple of years live? OMG.....if not, then that's your problem. They still have it and then some. Their new album Saints of Los Angeles kicks major tail.
Why are there so many babies on O.com? Creole, you and your buddy JPSO Recruit help me out on this one....

Robocop, I was just listening to some Motley Crue, they're still great like towncop said, they sound the same, maybe it's the lyrics?

I saw them live too a few years ago but I'm not talking about that I'm talking about making NEW music. There's no way you're going to tell me that "Saints of L.A." is anywhere near as good as "Looks that Kill", "Shout at the Devil", "Girls, Girls, Girls", or "Wild Side" among others.

Many of those 80s metal/hard rock bands put out some fantastic stuff back then but they just can't make music like they used to.

To prove that Motley Crue's new album didn't sell JACK SQUAT compared to what their old stuff did. Dr.Feelgood hit #1 in album sales, remember? I'd be shocked if their latest even was in the top 50.

So the public concurs otherwise they'd buy the stuff up like they used to. I know about downloads too but even if you include it's still nothing like what it was.

I think allot of this has to do with the generation that is buying music. Now-a days its all about R&B and rap. I don't know why but that $h!t sells. Sad to say but Timberlake is the new AC/DC

Nothing will ever be as good as Wild Side in my book when it comes to Crue material.

Sure they can, and do. People these days are just too used to the R&B ghetto crap that's being forced onto us by the radios and MTV.

Well, you must be in the mood to be shocked because Saints of Los Angeles went as high as #4 on the Billboard Albums Top 100. How you like them apples??

So yeah, I must be right when it comes to true Crue fans, SOLA is a killer Crue album. Carry on!

Oh, and Unforgiven III? Horrid...couldn't even make it halfway through. Does not deserve to be in the same room with I & II, much less be linked to them.

I AM enjoying "classic" Metallica on the new XM Mandatory Metallica station though (#51)
You, my dear, are a goddess among women.

I've heard some of the new stuff. I'm not impressed. Yes, it is Metallica. But it's not the Metallica that I (we?) grew up with. They've lost their edge. Perhaps they've become less willing to push the envelope. Perhaps my tastes have become a little more conservative. Perhaps I understand a lot more of the "crap" that goes on. (Lars, while he may be talented, irritates me about as much as sand in my shorts.) They've grown up, just as I've grown up. Tastes change. Styles change. Maybe it's them. Maybe it's me.

Thanks for the heads up on the station Reiland. Now I have something other than "Pocket Full of Sunshine" on XM 22 to listen to.

I saw that as well, however I remember when the black album came out how Hetfield stated he took vocal lessons to try and have a more melodic voice for slower songs (Nothing Else Matters) and since then he has more melody in his vocals (in my opinion) since this album. And since he has done that it has carried over into his singing the older songs and they just don't sound all there too me. I have seen them live a number of times and since the black album it is different vocally in the older songs than it was during black album and before. This is only my observation maybe someone else has a different take on this!!!!

St. Anger blew, even they admit that but this new stuff is good. You cant tell me Cyanide and My apocalypse are not pure Metallica.
All four of those albums were unique in their own ways....

St. Anger was unique in how it was garbage. I remember being pretty mad I spent money on that CD... The Black Album, however, I would pay $100 for. One of my all-time favorites, easily.

The songs My Apocalypse and Cyanide do sound like early Metallica and they are good songs but nothing in the metal world beats their first 3 albums.
P/M me for a patch trade.

FYI,Last Caress/Green hell was a misfits song covered by Metallica.
