  • Give me a break!

A Kentucky college student has hired a lawyer after she was escorted out of a mall by security on Sunday because her dress was deemed too short, MyFOXBoston reports.

Kymberly Clem, a 20-year-old student at Eastern Kentucky University, wore the dress Sunday after purchasing it from the mall in Richmond the previous day, the Richmond Register reported Tuesday. After just a few minutes inside of the mall, a security guard approached her and expressed concerns over the length of the garment.

According to MyFOXBoston, the guard informed her that several female patrons had complained that she was disrupting their shopping experience because their husbands were “checking her out.”

“He made me turn all the way around while he stared me up and down,” she told the Register “The only thing he said was that other people didn’t like the way I looked, so he wanted me to leave.”

Clem’s sister Kendra told the Register that while the dress was short, it was not exposing any of her “private body parts.”

While Clem has not yet filed suit against any entity, she has hired local defense attorney Wes Browne to represent her in a possible case, the Register said.

“We’re in the beginning stages and are reviewing her legal options,” Browne said.

In the meantime however, Clem said she will be using her experience as a way to raise awareness about discrimination.

“I want to speak for everybody else who has been discriminated against but has never said anything,” she told the Register. “I want them to apologize and let them know that in this day and age, a woman has a right to wear what she wants.”

Doesn't really look all that short to me. Her arms, that are at her sides, are the same length as the dress. I'm sure she could stretch her arms a couple inches maximum, but I really don't see it being that big of a difference.

It’s short but not that short, I wasn’t there but I don’t see the big deal. If the other woman shoppers have a problem with there husbands checking out this young lady then address it with them. There is no need to share your inability to keep your husbands wondering eye in check with a security guard.

If she had underwear on i dont know how she was doing anything wrong. But i dont know what the "laws" say.

Men dont need a short skirt to look

Am I the only one that was taught the "arm test?"

I don't see any problem with the dress either. You can't really sue the mall for an action taken by the security guard on behalf of its patrons. However, if the security guard acted inappropriately, then I'd see a valid case.

When i visit the prisons, they have the arm test - but it's for a tunic top OVER leggings lol. Which means if you have stretchy bottoms on, your top has to be as long as your arms/fingertips.

I think she should sue the guard, his employer, the mall, and the store that sold her the dress. And of course the city for allowing the mall to violate her constitutional rights.

That is messed up... it wasn't even that short, let alone bad enough to warrant her being removed by security.

Maybe it wasn't because it was too short.. maybe it was because it's incredibly tacky and looks like something out of the 80s?

She's kinda cute...The chicks that complained are probably insecure about themselves...

Nah, we had that down here, the teacher would make them stand up and put there hand next to them on their sides...If the dress is above the fingertips they would go to the office...

I LIKE IT! Either the guard was gay, or the "patrons" husbands simply had a pulse! She can come down here and wear it in our mall anytime!

uhoh...did I type that out loud?

That ain't nothing. I've seen worse in California. I am 5 ft 11 that dress would've come up to my waist!

That sucks for her. Hopefully she will win. I don't blame her.

Now, on the other hand, I was at Cub Foods and observed a young female wearing shorts so short that you could clearly see a good two inches of her butt. She should have been asked to change, etc.

Ahhh...she looks tacky. BUT, so long as the goods aren't showing in the front, she could wear it here...HOWEVER, the mall is most likely private property and therefore they can kick her out.

The biggest shame (IMHO) is a fairly attractive girl thinking she has to dress like a slut to get attention. Sometimes sexy is more about what you're not showing, not what you're shoving in the face of the public....however, i've also been 20 years old, too! LOL

I don't agree with your opinion, but I respect its straightforwardness in terms of wrongness.
