  • NYPD Academy Question

Does anyone know if recruits are able to use the facility (weight room, track, etc.) on there own time, outside of the proscribed classes and daily routine?

Also, I haven't been able to find any good pictures or info on the new academy and particularly it's weight room. Are there Olympic lifting platforms or mats?

    Thanks,

    Dude, do you even lift?

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed.

    I Am the Sheepdog.

You won't have TIME to do extra.
Since its three years plus down the line, you can start now on your own.
Now go home and get your shine box!

I should have been a little more detailed.

I'm hoping to get into the academy in April or July. Currently I'm extremely lucky that my company gym has everything I could ask for. I lift religiously and would like to know if I'll be able to use the academy's weight room (assuming it has what I'm looking for) at the end of the day, on my own time, or if I should start looking for another gym now.

        1) Is this allowed?

        2) Does the weight room have olympic platforms or mats?

I'd appreciate it if anyone with knowledge of the NYPD academy, particularly the new facility could provide their insight.

        Thanks,

I don't lift enough to know about Olympic platforms or mats.

But yes- you can use the gym at various times of the day.
          These would be as follows:
          530-630am
then their is a period of time (which I don't recall that overlaps both day and night tours)
PLUS your meal time, which if you elect to forfeit may be used to workout.

The gym is also open on Saturday's almost every weekend of the year.

          Hope this helps.
