  • DTs

I saw that there are a couple of older threads on here about DTs. Not looking to go into great detail or anything, just wondering if anyone has any new experiences with them. I started the academy yesterday and it looks like we will be doing them at least a few times a week. Just really wanting to know what to look forward to besides getting my wood sanded.

You will learn the secret ninja moves that all cops know, allowing you to effectively disarm any assailant without hurting them. It's wicked awesome.

We did a lot of jujitsu and basic grappling and submission moves, mostly defensive styles. Its fun as hell.

I think honestly the most you can hope to get out of DT at a police academy is a basic punch, kick, and a decent stance, and hopefully the will to fight without giving up if the SHTF. As far as jujitsu and other stuff like that.. if you don't practice it continuously for many months (probably years) it's all gonna go out the window in a fight. I think DT is more important for teaching aggression (when and how to use it).

Those who choose to continue their training after the academy will be that much better off.

You can look forward to sleeping like a rock at the end of DT days. Also, pay close attention to the way the moves are supposed to be done and don't go into kill mode. You will be practicing on each other and the last thing you want is to make an academy classmate drop because you went overboard and injured them. A few guys in my class appear to have some sort of ADHD and a couple wrists almost got broken and one guy went to the emergency room for a sprained neck. All could have been avoided if those individuals were paying close attention to how things were supposed to be done and didn't go into spaz mode when it came time to perform. Give 110% but don't go out for blood and pay attention to the signs of distress when doing joint manipulation moves.

Started DTs last night. Today I smell like a Ben Gay factory. I did however learn that doing escorts when everyone's arms feel like jelly is fun.
