FRANCONIA, N.H. -- A police officer was shot and killed in Franconia on Friday night along with another man who was a cousin of champion skier Bode Miller.
Neither the officer's nor the other person's identities were immediately released, and there were no details released about the circumstances of the shootings. But a relative of the other man said that he was a cousin of Bode Miller in his 20s.
Police blocked off a section of Route 116 south of Franconia's town center while they investigated. Reports of a shooting began coming in just before 6:30 p.m. Gov. John Lynch and the attorney's general office confirmed that a police officer was shot and killed later Friday evening but were unable to give any details.
"We will certainly be working throughout the night on this case," Attorney General Kelly Ayotte said. "The State Police Major Crime Unit will be working though the night with my office."
Officials said that there was no threat to the public.
The last police officer killed in the line of duty was Manchester Officer Michael Briggs, who was shot and killed in October 2006.

Good job on the part of the civilian. It appears that skier Bode Miller's cousin was the suspect.
Condolences to the officer's family.
