It is with deep regret we notify you of the line-of-duty death of Indianapolis Metro Police Officer Perry Renn.
Officer Renn and another officer responded to a report of shots fired on the city's east side at 9:24 P.M. Saturday evening. Four minutes after they arrived, there was a report of an "officer down."
Upon arrival, the officers had encountered a male subject in the alley and a shootout ensued. Officer Renn and the suspect were both hit. Officer Renn was transported to Eskenazi Hospital where he died of his injuries. Officer Renn was a 22-year veteran of IPD/IMPD.
Please keep the Renn and Indianapolis police families in your thoughts and prayers. IMPD has had eight (8) officers shot in the line of duty in the last 18 months.
This is the second line-of-duty death in central Indiana this week. Funeral arrangements for Officer Renn are pending.
