Hello everyone,
I am new to the forums, having joined this afternoon. I am 24 (25 on Monday the 22nd), live in Illinois and I teach high school social studies (U.S. History, Sociology, Economics and World Geography). I was browsing the net and joined the boards to ask for some advice (see ask A cop post) and gain knowledge on the profession. I am seriously considering a career swith to LE. I wanted to be a police officer when I started college, but I weighed 300 lbs and was out of shape at the time so I pursued a teaching career instead. I've since gotten off my arse, joined a gym, and am in great physical shape (minus dealing with all the little darlings)!
I'm also a professional storm chaser and I work part-time with a communications outfit that performs two-way radio, equipment, and light/siren installs for numerous police departments, fire/EMS organizations, and other public and private entities. Being around a diverse, varied number of police officers on a semi-regular basis has given me a renewed interest in the profession, as well as a deeper apreciation for those who place their lives on the line for others.
Peace,
JLR
