  • Missouri Law Enforcement student

    Greetings,

I'm here looking for general information on Law Enforcement organizations in Missouri. Thinking about attending a POST school where I pay my own way, but would prefer to be sponsored. I have a BA and I am incredibly fit, if on the older side to start the process (30+). Thanks for having me.

I paid my way though and it worked out perfect. It works for some but doesn't for others. If you are looking to be sponsored you will have to get on a large department such as Kansas City or St. Louis.

That's not entirely true. I know of one muni, in particular, that sponsor through the academy. The way the academy is set up in the St. Louis County area allows any of the 61 municipals to do so. However, I'm not sure which ones do and which ones do not.

I do not know how St. Louis is. However, many departments may "say" they will send you to the academy. Generally I have found they don't (not a perfect rule.) I applied at several departments prior to me putting myself through with no luck. I put myself through and got on the first department I applied for after I graduated.

The departments I put in for were all suburban agencies who claimed they were willing to sponser. It seemed they always hired someone who was already POST certified. (Again not a perfect rule, though.)

        Either way good luck.
