  • Hello from Southern California!

    Hello, My name is Stephen.

I am 22 years old (turning 23 tomorrow) and I'm interested in working in the field of law enforcement. I got my Bachelor's Degree at UCI last June with a major in Economics. I am currently working at a bank, but I am tired of the tedious 9 to 5 daily grind that I have to deal with and I don't feel the satisfaction that I made a difference in anyone's life. This is why I feel that the law enforcement field is the perfect career for me as I'm sure that police officers experience new things everyday and, at the same time, make a difference in the community.

I'm a little clueless on how to get started in the hiring process, which is why I came to this website seeking for help. My friend's sister is a cop in south central LA and she advised me to first go on a ride-along, so I filled out a request form to get this ride-along. Hopefully, I can get some helpful advice from this ride-along, but I would also like to hear from other seasoned veterans in this forum who went through the same difficulties that I am having right now.

P.S. Nice to meet you all!!!

Welcome. You get to join the rest of us patiently waiting for a spot somewhere. Hopefully I can tell you one day what it takes to become a LEO.

      Welcome.

I bolded a part that I wanted to discuss, being a Police Officer can be the most boring thing you have ever done, working patrol you will go to different places and see different faces but the story is mostly the same. Not discouraging you but, you can get burned out in any career and LE puts additional streses on you that you may not be thinking of.

I too left the 9-5 office life for LE but for my own reasons, make sure you really want to do this by doing ride alongs and talking to officers before jumping in, not just because you don't like working at the bank.

How long have you been waiting for? How many different departments have you applied for? Where in Southern California have you applied at? Any of these questions would be of help. Thank you in advance.
