Well, I just got back into town the other day after helping out in the city of New Orleans. I got sent down by my fire department to help the New Orleans fire department run calls & assist in different operations. I must say I have a whole new outlook on life. Anyone who's been following this knows that the majority of the people lost everything. It gives you a whole new appreciation for the little things in life. Most of the fire & police personnel I met with lost everything they had. Reading about it doesn't do any justice, you have to be there & see it. There were sad stories after sad stories & I had to take long walks on my off day at the camp/staging area just to clear my mind of it all. There was a good side to it all though. I've never seen a greater unity of police, fire, & military personnel working together in harmony in my entire career. I worked alongside several New York firemen, some who lived the day of 9/11. Illinois sent several crews down. I met/worked with Police from Chicago, the Jersey area, FBI, and several US forestry police. I also credit the New Orleans Police & Firemen who continued to be there and do their jobs despite losing everything. They were a great bunch of people. I'm glad to be home again especially since I had to drink bad coffee the entire time I was there.
Remember.....don't take anything for granted in life.
