      Stevec is partly right.
And I am partly right. I'll gladly admit when I'm wrong.

      Here's Merriam-Websters definition:
      Main Entry: [B]ref

I am not too keen on political correctness, which is usually based on some form of groupthink. I am asking about your definition of the word. During Vietnam we called people "gooks." I am sure it is easier to shoot and kill a gook than a person with a name. I see the word "thugs" bantered about here in much the same way here.

I am not anti-cop. I think you guys have an impossible job. While you say "write yer Congressman" they are the guys who set the house on fire. They often try to put it out with gasoline, which, I dunno for sure, but I don't think it has ever worked. Usually the leaders are a few steps behind the people; if the people are behind, then the "leaders" are way behind. Our elections are between Tweedledee, Tweedledum, and Tweedledumbest usually wins.

Democracy works perfectly, but we are only as strong as the weakest link.
not sure who " we " are in ref to calling the enemy names,
i am sure no one minded calling the enemy names during
        ww1, or ww2.

when we see patterns of criminality, and hear eye witness reports
of criminal aCtivity or see it on the television...who care's what
name we give the bad guys.

the criminal element once again out shined in the tv media and
        eye witness accounts.
no matter what paint job ya give a thug, he's always gonna be one,
and don't bother throwing money at it, cause it's a lost cause.

My use of the word terd is a habit I've had for years. It's reserved for those that are doing something bad or wrong.

It was mostly a play on words. Shi**y and terd are closely related in the pun.
