But you are quick come on the forum and complain about them. Get some courage!

Race didnt play a factor in the rescue efforts........ignorance did!
do you honestly think that all "we" need to do is talk to people and things will be okaay,,,just hold hands and be warm and fuzzy, have you ever looked into the prison system, which for some stupid reason is still in the "rehabillitation mentality", i dont have exact numbers, but they have shown that it very seldom works, and all that is, is talking to them, telling them what they need to do to become productive members of society, this point alone shows that you are way out of touch with reality.

BEANO is me . Why didn't I talk some sense in to them? After trying to mentor young folks most of the day and mold them into good Air Force personnel, I like to take a break from the supervisory role and spend time with my wife. That time is better spent giving her my attention in lieu of trying to teach an unappreciative terd about thankfullness.

I can see the exchange between myself and Mr. Terd:

Me: Umm sir, you dropped these papers.
Mr. Terd: OH,, sir, thank you for being such a kind soul and bringing that to my attention.

Jesse Jackson will make an appearance on Bill Oreilly before that ever happens.

They were people seeking refuge from N'Orleans in the abandoned Levi Strauss building close by. Apparently they had been given free admission to the game and food vouchers. I thought that was a wonderful gesture for our local BBall team to make. How were they thanked? I saw one young man empty his pockets of ticket stubs and used voucher receipts on the ground after leaving the stadium. I'm sure his actions don't represent all of those folks, but I thought it was pretty shi**y of the terd (pun intended) to do something like that.

                  rant over

I've noticed a pattern that young people are always immature. Maybe it's just me.

I've also noticed a pattern of bigotry in adults.

I wonder if it is a coincidence, or if the people who are immature when they are young also grow up to be bigots when they get older.

I recently learned that in the church I go to, 50 or so years ago, that it was "standard operating procedure" for the French to sit on one side of the church and the Irish on the other. (Evidently that was all who lived in the town in those days.) In fact, there are lots of churches around built side-by-side of the same denomination to serve different ethnic communities.

Has it ever occured to you guys that some cops exhibit a similar form of bigotry? Like, if a poor person commits a crime, then all poor people are criminals. Or, is a poor black person commits a crime, then all poor blacks are criminals?

This conversation quickly changed from "a kid through a piece of paper on the ground" to "there will be an increase in crime because of the refugees."

They are not refugees, they are survivors. They will only be refugees if they are persecuted by a bigoted government.

All bigotry comes from a false sense of superiority/inferiority, rather than seeing everyone as equal.

The comments on rehabilatation and social services, especially, seem to reflect an attitude that their work is unimportant and futile. Perhaps the mechanism of a self-fulfilling prophesy is at work here? Do you see only what you project?

Do you think you are better than the people you serve (and work with), in general?

(This is a general comment, not meant toward anyone specifically.)

Take off the blinders. I don't hear anyone saying that all the refugee's are criminals. The fact of the matter is that when you take people out of the projects of N.O. (a high crime area) and displace them into another area (gov't housing, refugee camps etc.) they are going to commit the same crime. That being said, the cities that they are moving into can expect a higher crime rates. This is the N.O. projects were talking about here (very high crime) not the suburban community of Summer Winds. Speaking of that not all suburbinites are good law abiding citizens either, some are criminals, but statistically the crime rate for this class is lower than of the poor class. This does not mean by any means that all people of the poor class are criminals, statistically that class commits more crimes, but not everyone. Of course I wish that the refugee's or survivors would proove me wrong and become upstanding citizens (the criminals that is), but that's a wish not reality.

You really can't change the English language to suit your needs. A refugee is simply a person who flees seeking refuge. That would make them refugees. They have no home, they fled, they sought refuge in several different states. Where in that definition do you find opression???
"Respect for religion must be reestablished. Public debt should be reduced. The arrogance of public officials must be curtailed. Assistance to foreign lands must be stopped or we shall bankrupt ourselves. The people should be forced to work and not depend on government for subsistence." - Cicero, 60 B.C.

Has anybody else noticed (and how could you miss it) that this guy has everyone pegged as being inferior to his view of Xanadu? I mean every one of us bigotted, government types. Well, if the idea is to generate debate, he won't allow it because we really haven't grasped his Utopian concepts yet. Especially us old guys with the life EXPERIENCE, as opposed to internet research. So I respectfully bow out and wish the rest of you good luck.

When a house burns down, we don't call the "survivor" a refugee.

I am not too keen on political correctness, which is usually based on some form of groupthink. I am asking about your definition of the word. During Vietnam we called people "gooks." I am sure it is easier to shoot and kill a gook than a person with a name. I see the word "thugs" bantered about here in much the same way here.

I am not anti-cop. I think you guys have an impossible job. While you say "write yer Congressman" they are the guys who set the house on fire. They often try to put it out with gasoline, which, I dunno for sure, but I don't think it has ever worked. Usually the leaders are a few steps behind the people; if the people are behind, then the "leaders" are way behind. Our elections are between Tweedledee, Tweedledum, and Tweedledumbest usually wins.

Democracy works perfectly, but we are only as strong as the weakest link.
