They put a descent picture of them up to make it look like they are descent people. They stole a motorcycle and they were racing putting peoples lives in danger. We are probably talking about real criminals, painted to be descent human beings who made a mistake. Whether that is the case or not, the officer is definitely not at fault.

If we continue to put the officers at fault for someone's accidental suicide, we are eventually going to have criminal coddling societies.

This is ridiculous, first of all, they shouldn't have been speeding, second of all they shouldn't have stolen a motorcycle and lastly, they shouldn't have ran from the POLEASE!

To the leo's out there how exactly do you define a "chase"? How far does an leo have to follow and try to stop a speeder before it becomes a chase?

That's usually defined by individual department policy.

The only time I feel maybe a chase should have been called off is when an innocent person in another vechicle is killed as the result of a chase. Of course others are of the opinion that the person evading arrest would be entirely to blame in that case as well.

If depts never chased people who were fleeing, wouldn't more people flee because their likelihood of getting away with it would go up, thereby increasing rather than decreasing the overall danger to the public? One reason why more people don't flee is because there's a good chance of crashing and/or getting caught. Of course depts need to balance the safety of innocent motorists with the value of catching the thug. Maybe technological improvements(some already present such as helicopters, some others to be developed in the future such as remote shutoff/gps tracking) can allow depts to achieve both.

This is a recent (last Monday) chase/crash my brother-in-law was involved in. I don't know how this one is going to turn out because I do not know their policy with chasing motorcycles.

"Motorcycle ride ends in tragedy"?????? That's like saying that a Kamakazi pilot who crashed onto a flight deck in the Battle of Midway...went on a "short flight that ended in tragedy". Stolen bike, 100 mph chase. Darwin never sleeps.

it's always the police fault, never the person that was riding a stolen motorcycle down the highway at 100mph+. The Trooper made them do it.
