  • there's cold... then there's....

running out of heating fuel at 2030 on a night when windchills are predicted to be 35 BELOW FREAKING ZERO.

Had the 'lectric blankie... the big dog next to me... Still, a couple of pipes are frozen (hopefully not burst! [Eek!] )

Sitting here dressed for outdoors (woolies, boots) waiting for the oil truck to show up.

Of course I have to buy straight Kero this time of year... of course we're talking war, so the Kero is the highest price it's been since... oh, 1989...

I knew I was *close*, but the temps the last few days burned about a week's worth of fuel in a copula days.

sometimes I just think I need to pack it in and move to Louisville, KY.

My daughter called at 0700 to inform me that her pipes, her neighbor's pipes.....and everyone ELSE'S pipes on her street were frozen...apparently at the STREET level. She's an hour SOUTH of me in Mississippi.

It was 8*F at 0700, with a windchill of around -2*. The low tonight is expected to reach 2*F.

While not COLD to you hearty Northern-types, it IS cold to those of use living HERE....in the SOUTH!

Yeah, it's pretty darned chilly here in Southern California too. It was 54 degrees when I took my kids to school this morning. Only supposed to get up to the mid 60's.

....and to think I'd give it all up and move to Steamboat Springs, Colorado if I win the lottery tomorrow!!!

Oil? Kerosene? What, no Natural Gas?

Frozen and possibly burst municipal water lines? What's the matter - don't they bury them deep enough?

Has nobody ever heard of fibreglass insulation for the walls and weatherstripping for the doors and windows?

It's supposed to get down to 18 tonight here. That will be the coldest so far this year but we've only had one other time that it's gotten down below freezing this winter. Last winter was mild too. I say bring it on. If it's going to be winter, at least act like it.

It's so cold here in Tulsa, when I fired my pistol on the range today, the round refused to leave the barrel unless it was wrapped in wool

As of this post (08:10) it is a warm and wonderful 11 degrees with wind chills of about -15 in Raleigh NC. Average low for today 29 - just the thought of the heating bill gives me chills

I am thinking about spraying about 10,000 aerosol cans so I can cash in on global warming..

I *do* think it's worse on those of you who live in the South and aren't used to it...

BUT... it hasn't broken 10 degrees here in TWO WEEKS.

I don't mind cold, but this is frikkin cold. Yesterday supposedly was around 12 degrees, but it was cloudy and white and cold and raw. Today it's clear again, but only about 4 in the sun, with the damn windchills back.

And Pete... I helped BUILD the pipeline that carries the Nat'l Gas from Canada to.... Southern New England.

No stops along the way though...
