If not, are you planning on doing so soon? Seems like most agencies are now doing this, so I was wondering if any reasonably decent sized agencies were still not doing so; and if not, why not? Or are you contemplating it, but still haven't formally decided to do it yet? And if so, are you deploying (or planning to deploy) with personally owned patrol rifles, or Dept purchased/owned weapons?

Thats a darn shame, I honestly feel that a rifle in every unit trunk in the USA is one of the BIGGEST homeland security bonus's we could achieve. To ever NEED one and not HAVE one that is sighted in to your use is a crime IMHO.

My department is far from large, about 40 sworn, but we have department issued Mini-14s for every officer. We all have issued shotguns too, though mine almost never leaves my locker, the Mini goes out with me on every shift.-Landric

we've got around 700 officers. the dept has rifles assigned to each precinct and unit. those that are certified are issued them as they become available. if you leave the unit or precinct you turn it back in.
if you have your own AR/M4 and it meets the depts specs you are allowed to carry it no matter where you're assigned.Perseverate In Pugna

Our SWAT guys are allowed to carry their AR-15s/M4s on duty. The rest of us are stuck with MP5s. We haven't had shotguns since '96, when we went to the MP5. We ditched the alley sweepers because there were some pansies who couldn't handle the recoil from a 12 gauge, and because the MP5 is more accurate. Well, more accurate than buckshot, but about the same accuracy as a slug, and I'd rather send a solid ounce of lead downrange than 147 grains - not only is there tremendous energy behind the slug, it makes a huge hole - the bigger the hole, the faster the fight ends. I never carried buckshot anyway, only slugs.Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. - Ronald Reagan
I don't think It'll happen in the US because we don't trust our government. We are a country of skeptics, raised by skeptics, founded by skeptics. - Amaroq
