  • Comfort Foods

Along with the bonechilling weather...(it is 5 degrees here) comes the need for comfort foods.
    What are your favorites?

I know I'm showing my "PA dutchy" heritage, but I love Chicken Pot Pie, with homemade pasta, and
angelhair pasta with white clam sauce.
(Chocolate just doesn't do it for me, unless it's the syrup form, and NOT used for cooking! [Wink] )

Would that be for in or out of the kitchen?

A Frosty from Wendy's is my equivolent to crack. Always feel better after a Frosty, and a small is only 99 cents.

My comfort food today will be a big pot of homemade veggie soup with plenty of warm Rye bread on the side. It's a bone-chilling 20 degrees here in Southern Illinois (-3 degrees at 5:30 this AM!!).

              [Eek!]

Maybe I should change my tag line to, "IT'S GETTING COLD IN HERE!!" [Wink]

I was going to reply, but lost ability to think when we got to "-3 degrees" in here......BRRRRRR.

I mean, it is 47* here right now, nothing but sun and blue sky. That's cold for me, and sad. Sad, because -70 used to be cold to me when I live in Cheyenne, WY. I would have DIED to have a day like today in the winter there!

It's winter folks.....It was -12 degrees this morning. Big deal, I don't go out. Issue resolved.

My favorite comfort foods? Definitely meatloaf and mashed potatoes with lots of gravy. Yum yum.

Went duckhunting this morning, it was 5 degrees but otherwise a beautiful day.

For "comfort" we resorted to hot vanilla capacinno in a thermos. We call it antifreeze. It works.

When one is standing in waist deep water that is froze all around you and the wind is blowing out of the north at 15 mph and your waders and gloves are froze stiff, one needs all the help he can get.

                          Exellent duck hunting weather !

Uh... I might be missing something here, but how are Chicken Pot Pie, angelhair pasta and clam sauce related to your "PA dutchy" heritage? The Pennsylvania Dutch were immigrants from Germany (Deutsch became, in America, Dutch)... So you should want things like, oh, blotworst mit sauerkraut, corned beef on rye, fish soup... I'd think angelhair pasta would be more a part of someone's italian heritage.

Me, I'm half German, and love any kind of good sausage (there's a Russian deli here in Saint Paul that has some amazing ones), corned or roast beef sandwiches, and most varieties of potato salad (quarter Irish, but it's the dominant quarter...).

However, being temporarily broke, Beef-flavored Ramen is, right now, my only available comfort food... er, my only available food. [Frown]
