Patch collections are a dime a dozen in emergency services communities. I was just curious to know if anyone collects badges. Obviously, no sworn officer is going to give up his badge for a collector, but do these things hit the market as part of estate sales or something? Or might it be illegal to own a badge in some areas if you're not issued it?

Under state ordances, it's illegal in Florida to have Police items (raid shirts, coats, hats, patches, etc) if your not duly authorized to have such, unless your a collector/booster/etc.

Badges....we can get spares if we need...but to trade them to a non-LEO? Not likely. To another LEO, sure.

I collect LEO related pins. (Lapel/hat pin types) You can get them as agency patches or mini badges.
