A doctored picture of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is creating a firestorm of controversy. The picture shows the Sheriff in a Ku Klux Klan robe, holding a noose around a Hispanic man.

The picture was e-mailed to immigration activist Elias Bermudez who sent the picture to several politicians, friends and news organizations.

Sheriff Joe called the picture garbage, "This is going a little too far," Arpaio said. Under the picture is the caption "Arpaio new political career KKK". The e-mail also shows a burning cross. advertisement

"It is in bad taste. It is a picture that should not be remembered but it is people in the Hispanic community feel now," Bermudez said.

The Sheriff and Bermudez have been on opposite sides for years. The Sheriff claims Bermudez and others recently compared him to Hitler and the Third [Reich], "I've got news for these people I will continue to enforce the laws," Arpaio said.

The Sheriff stopped short of calling the picture a threat but vowed to investigate the origin. When asked if he has been threatened recently he refused to say, but did admit he has security for the first time in 15 years.

Bermudez did not apologize for sending the picture out, but said he was sorry if offended anyone. The immigration activist says the picture represents the beliefs of the Hispanic community.

He's always had security, from what I've seen.

God, I love that guy. I wish more police departments were like him. Looking foward to working for him in a month or so.

I am growing tired of ILLEGAL immigrant supporters. THEY are the ones not using any logic. THEY are the ones who are buffoons.

This guy has been a thorn in Joe's side for some time now. I saw this interaction between these two 'love birds' live on CH12 news the other day and I was rolling laughing so hard. Bermudez also said he "didn't know" who 'made' the picture, he just forwarded it. Umm-hmmm.

This is same guy that rallied a few hundred thousand illegal immigrants in the center of Phoenix and marched to the State Capitol in the name of immigration reform. To the best of my knowledge, the right to gather in protest is only extended to citizens of this county. Oh yeah, the City of Phoenix incurred a hefty expense (twice now) providing security and escort, in the form of closing vital city streets (on a weekday), for this mob of illegals. I'll give ya one guess who gets to foot that bill, the legal citizens of Phoenix. The "Dirty-Bremudez" indeed.

Some of the people I know on the shooting boards that I'm on were about to just go down there with signs saying how they felt, all while legally open carrying.

I wonder how many of those illegals had drugs, guns, on them.

Next thing you know, people will be protesting because they want to legally be able to sell crack, because the white suppressive government took away their only source of income.

I don't think he was really apologizing.

Sorta like punching someone in the face and saying "Oh, sorry."

He should be saying he is sorry to the African-Americans when he attempted to say the Hispanic community feels they are being hung. Completly different set of cicumstances.

While I do not hate them, illegals do not have my sympathy anymore.

Same here. I am however getting real sick and tired of dealing with them. I think for the most part, the majority are hard working decent people trying to make a buck. There seems to be a trend with them lately IMO acting like I have to speak Spanish. That really ticks me off. I used to pretty much let them go. Not anymore, when I run into them now I hang every charge on them I can find. Most have false government documents on them, a felony. They seem to think it's a big game. It's "game on" as far as I'm concerned, cause I have the time. Around here, ICE has been deporting the heck out of them lately.

While I respect their initial work ethic, I do not believe that the US should be the dumping ground of cheap labor ...... ESPECIALLY if they are sending their wages "home." The US never should consider itself the welfare state of the world.

Want to become a hard working TAX paying American? Fine. Come in an try to assimilate.
