You can deny their existence if you like, but their actions (like attacking courthouses and police stations, for example) are no different from the groups I listed above. In fact, their political ideologies are even the same (Marxism, Socialism, anti-capitalism)...there are now groups who are calling themselves "liberation fronts" and like, just like in the 70's.

Go to Portlands arrest record section and do a search of the arrests police have been making over the past few months specifically in the area by the Federal Courthouse. Since you are a cop Im fairly certain you should be able to come to the conclusion that many of those arrested appear to be habitual drug users, are wearing nothing but blacked out clothing (black bloc attire). Black bloc is something countries across the seas are dealing with, and it is not related to right wing extremism. Black bloc is a concept tied to Anarchist groups, which is where they dress up in all black and mask their identities in order to get away with violent riot activity.

No one on here is excusing right wing extremism. The point people on here people are making is that on the opposite end of the political spectrum there are people who are just as vile and disgusting, that have the same end goal as right wing extremists (overthrowing the current government structure). The only real difference is they're using deception in order to gain favour with main stream outlets, politicians, and parts of the public by claiming they're doing what they're doing for the "oppressed" demographics of society. Now if you were to give those people any form of authority/power they would more than likely go overboard and abuse it. Ted Wheeler for example is finding out the hard way of what happens when you try cow tailing to these people. IE you don't give into their every demand, and you find your residence getting firebombed.

Thank you for your response. One question though, hiring standards are higher than before? One of the main issues are PC hires, it's been a problem for a while. If you equate education with a lack of bias, you're delusional, there is empirical data to refute that. You also provided an answer to your question in your statement. Once again, Thanks.

Hiring standards are monumentally higher than they were in the 60's and 70's. The reality is, most LEO's of that era were hired for their ability to kick @$$...I've heard that straight from the mouths of officers who worked with them. Today, your average hiring process includes written testing (both cognitive and psychological), oral interviews, extensive background investigations, some sort of "lie detector" test, and an in-depth psychological examination...and that's before you look at the increases in the base hiring requirements. Few of these steps were common for your average LE agency in the 60's and 70's.

As for higher education, it's ironic that you'd question its usefulness because it wasn't LE that pushed for it, but so-called "police reform advocates." That's the same for what you refer to as "PC hires"...LE generally wants to hire the best candidate, regardless of surface differences. It's politicians and "reformers" who push things like hiring quotas based upon race, sex, etc.

I'm not sure if the best are generally hired. PC also includes "undersized" performers who truly believe they earned their way. Hiring should incorporate a bifurcated entry level testing process with a written examination and a weighted physical ability portion. Pass/fail should go away.

I have no issue with pass/fail physical agility testing...at best, it gives a department only a general idea of physical ability anyway (I've never chased a suspect a mile and a half in jogging shorts and a t-shirt...for time...in the course of my 20 years in LE, after all).

Most civil service agencies DO run written examinations as one of the first steps, and the scoring is not pass/fail. The issue with written exams is that some people simply aren't good test-takers, but have the potential to be excellent LEO's. I work with a detective who is a horrible test-taker (has totally bombed promotional and other entry-level LE tests) but is a spectacular cop...sometimes, a written test does not accurately judge someone's ability.

I don't think this year's riots would've been nearly as bad had there not been this pandemic panic going on. When you lock people in their homes for months, tell them they can't go to work, and not provide any kind of relief, people are naturally going to be ****ed off and resentful. I think because of this, we saw more people that we wouldn't have normally seen participating in civil disobedience doing so, and it's only going to get worse.

I will agree with Krink in that people being couped up in their homes and not able to provide for themselves as normal definitely probably added to the number of people who participated in civil disobedience. I believe that they are connected in that as long people as are still locked down I think it will just add to their general anxiety and anger. We will see what 2021 brings in.

I have to say that it's my belief and my opinion only, that one does not need a bachelor's degree to do this job. Especially a local copper. It may help later on in a career, but to get hired it's not needed. Most of these police reform advocates you speak of mainly have never worked anywhere near LE but thinks they know everything. I will say that as long as the candidates are otherwise qualified, I have no problems with a chief or municipalities wanting to hire cops who mirror their community or at least addresses a need they have. Like for example, our chief made the recruitment of female and Spanish speakers a priority. Our city is half Hispanic and out of 185ish officers, about 10 were female. That's a problem when I need a female officer to search on the street for me. Once again my opinion.
