(C) with the intent to disrupt the orderly conduct of official business, enter or remain in a room in any of the Capitol Buildings set aside or designated for the use of either House of Congress or a Member, committee, officer, or employee of Congress, or either House of Congress; or

(D) utter loud, threatening, or abusive language, or engage in disorderly or disruptive conduct, at any place in the Grounds or in any of the Capitol Buildings with the intent to impede, disrupt, or disturb the orderly conduct of a session of Congress or either House of Congress, or the orderly conduct in that building of a hearing before, or any deliberations of, a committee of Congress or either House of Congress;

Well to be fair, BLM was tearing down statues, setting fires and destroying cop cars... All of DC was up in flames at that point... there still is no actual realistic comparison between what BLM/Pantifa has done on a nationwide scale for months on end and what happened yesterday. There would literally have to be exponentially more dead, fires, destroyed police cars, pulled down statues. That didn't happen. Yesterday truly was a "mostly peaceful protest", in contrast with what the media normally uses that label for. Only a mouth-breathing partisan could conflate the two.

United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers and our law enforcement partners responded valiantly when faced with thousands of individuals involved in violent riotous actions as they stormed the United States Capitol Building. These individuals actively attacked United States Capitol Police Officers and other uniformed law enforcement officers with metal pipes, discharged chemical irritants, and took up other weapons against our officers. They were determined to enter into the Capitol Building by causing great damage.

As protesters were forcing their way toward the House Chamber where Members of Congress were sheltering in place, a sworn USCP employee discharged their service weapon, striking an adult female. Medical assistance was rendered immediately, and the female was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. She has been identified as Ashli Babbitt.

As per the USCP’s policy, the USCP employee has been placed on administrative leave and their police powers have been suspended pending the outcome of a joint Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and USCP investigation.

As these other violent events were unfolding across the Capitol Complex, the USCP officers were simultaneously responding to a report of a pipe bomb in the 300 block of First Street, SE, and a second pipe bomb in the 400 block of Canal Street, SE. A suspicious vehicle was also identified in the 300 block of First Street, SE, at this time.

The USCP Hazardous Materials Response Team determined that both devices were, in fact, hazardous and could cause great harm to public safety. The devices were disabled and turned over to the FBI for further investigation and analysis.

The suspicious vehicle was thoroughly investigated by the USCP, FBI, and ATF. It has been cleared of any hazards. The USCP arrested the vehicle’s owner along with 13 additional suspects for unlawful entry of the U.S. Capitol. The USCP is continuing to review surveillance video and open source material to identify others who may be subject to criminal charges.

The Department is grateful for the assistance provided by more than 18 local, state, and Federal law enforcement agencies and the National Guard. More than 50 USCP and MPD sustained injuries during the attack on the Capitol. Several USCP officers have been hospitalized with serious injuries.

The violent attack on the U.S. Capitol was unlike any I have ever experienced in my 30 years in law enforcement here in Washington, D.C. Maintaining public safety in an open environment – specifically for First Amendment activities – has long been a challenge. The USCP had a robust plan established to address anticipated First Amendment activities. But make no mistake – these mass riots were not First Amendment activities; they were criminal riotous behavior. The actions of the USCP officers were heroic given the situation they faced, and I continue to have tremendous respect in the professionalism and dedication of the women and men of the United States Capitol Police.

The USCP is conducting a thorough review of this incident, security planning and policies and procedures.

Loss of USCP Officer Brian D. Sicknick

At approximately 9:30 p.m. this evening (January 7, 2021), United States Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick passed away due to injuries sustained while on-duty.

Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters. He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The death of Officer Sicknick will be investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, the USCP, and our federal partners.

Officer Sicknick joined the USCP in July 2008, and most recently served in the Department’s First Responder’s Unit.

The entire USCP Department expresses its deepest sympathies to Officer Sicknick’s family and friends on their loss, and mourns the loss of a friend and colleague.

We ask that Officer Sicknick’s family, and other USCP officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected during this time.

According to his brother, Sicknick was a former Air National Guardsman who served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Enduring Freedom before joining the police force

The standard of what the media and our politicians have told us constitutes "mostly peaceful" for the last 8 months: People literally throwing Molotov cocktails and commercial grade fireworks at cops, pillaging stores, assaulting people, shooting cops, setting cop cars on fire. The amount of death and destruction that occurred at the Capitol was still far less than what has been going on with the approval of many of the same people who were in the Capitol on January 6. So, using that standard, yes, it was mostly peaceful. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

They couldn't even remotely hope to control the unarmed mass of people. I don't think that if this happens again it happens with a largely unarmed crowd. Time will tell. We're in perilous times. Regardless of what Mrs. Babbitt thought, it still doesn't justify shooting a petite unarmed 20-something woman in the neck instead of just dragging her to the ground with the four cops that were in close proximity to her. Just being in the building to be disruptive when Congress is there does not create some suspension in the law regarding use of deadly force, else every time Code Pink and the various and sundry other groups interrupted the proceedings they should have been mowed down without question, according to your standard. I've seen the videos, the shooting was clearly unjustified based on the fact that Mrs. Babbitt was obviously unarmed and did not present the threat of death or serious bodily injury to anyone, let alone the guy who pulled the trigger. You can quibble all you want, but facts remain facts regardless.

Well, yes I am discounting people like Lin Wood and Sidney Powell who are telling us that Pence should be arrested and that dominion voting systems are being controlled by foreign governments.

You do know that the concern over Dominion voting machines was bipartisan, and that Democrats (including Elizabeth Warren) expressed these same concerns, in a letter that you can read, in fact: https://www.warren.senate.gov/imo/me...%20letters.pdf

Those are extraordinary claims and until these people can provide proof of these things, then they are doing a disservice to conservatives and our country. You can't make these kinds of claims without evidence. And if there is no evidence for them, people should not believe them. Pretty simple concept.

The problem in this situation was that the elections officials who controlled the machines refused to make them available for audit or inspection, which would have been the only way to provide proof that the concerns were unfounded. Again, even democrats believed that this was a problem to the point that even Elizabeth Warren expressed concerns that the companies who developed these machines "long skimped on security in favor of convenience" and noted that voters in 2018 in South Carolina were reporting that their votes had been switched. According to the letter signed by (among others) Warren and Amy Klobuchar, neither big fans of Trump, these problems "threaten the integrity of our elections". In Michigan there were a staggering 6,000 votes that switch from Trump to Biden that were attributed to the machines by the group that audited them pursuant to a lawsuit. This is a serious issue and there is FAR from "no evidence" for it. Pretty simple concept, indeed.

Now laws being changed by judges about mail in ballots is a different thing to me. I can see the argument for why that would be problematic.

And this DID happen, by officials who did not have the statutory authority to make the changes. When the rules can be changed on the fly and the law breaks down, it leads to what happened on 1/6/21.

A lot of people don't and won't see it that way. There was a lot of things that lead to this, and this "one man" wouldn't have had the following he did if that weren't so. Being dismissive and insulting of those people and mocking them for the last four years while attempting to undo the lawful results of the 2016 election through a sham investigation predicated on a patently bogus "dossier" for starters. You want to find the cause of what happened, you're going to have to go back well before Wedesday to get there. Trump isn't the cause, he's the reaction. Only a fool fails to grasp this.
