I tried searching, but I don't think Google would find this. Very much a trivia question, but is the city that the state capitols are located always the county seat of their respective counties? And, yes, I do realize Louisiana has parishes, instead of counties and Alaska has boroughs.

I searched again and I found it, trivia fans.
Lansing, Michigan is the only state capital that is not also its county seat (not counting the two state capitals that are independent cities and not located in any county). Detroit is the state's largest city. -
No. Connecticut does not have any county government. So no county seat.I don't answer recruitment messages....Comment

The following state capitals (with an a to mean the city, rather than with an o to mean the building) are also the largest cities of their respective states:
Phoenix, Arizona
Little Rock, Arkansas
Denver, Colorado
Atlanta, Georgia
Honolulu, Hawaii
Boise, Idaho
Indianapolis, Indiana
Des Moines, Iowa
Boston, Massachusetts
Jackson, Mississippi
Columbus, Ohio
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Providence, Rhode Island
Columbia, South Carolina
Nashville, Tennessee (per latest estimates; as of 2010 census, Memphis was larger)
Salt Lake City, Utah
Charleston, West Virginia
Cheyenne, Wyoming
But what's the only state capital with a three word name?Comment

Same with Rhode Island; no county governments. Also, most of Massachusetts' counties have abolished their county governments and deferred all services and authority to either the state or the towns (a few counties in the southeastern part of the state still have some county government though)."If the police have to come get you, they're bringing an @$$ kicking with them!"

Yeah. VA is weird. So many of the county seats are independent cities that are surrounded by, or adjacent to, their county. From what I understand, this is because the whole independent city thing didn't come about until the 1870s. Prior to that, the cities were part of the surrounding county. So, when the VA constitution changed and all municipalities that were incorporated as cities were required to be independent, many of the counties just chose to leave the seats where they were. Today, it's an odd setup. A county courthouse in an independent city is almost like an embassy: It's not part of the city at all; it is considered to be county land and completely under the county's jurisdiction.Last edited by GangGreen712; 04-26-2019, 11:23 PM."If the police have to come get you, they're bringing an @$$ kicking with them!"

Also the fact that each independent city (AFAIK) has its own Sheriff's office. I live in SE VA and we used to have the counties of: Warwick, Nanesmond, Norfolk and Princess Anne. Now it's a group of independent cities. The counties which surround those cities are: Accomack, Northampton, James City, York, Gloucester, Southampton, Surry and Isle of Wight.

It's safe to say that in the US nothing is "always" anything...."I am a Soldier. I fight where I'm told and I win where I fight." -- GEN George S. Patton, Jr.
