  • How to get the smell of marijuana out of gear after raid

Hey everybody, I am a new Patrol Deputy and just participated in my first illigal marijuana grow raid. We removed a significant amount of weed and my gear and clothing got covered in plant material. Do any of you have any tricks on how to get the smell out of my clothing and gear? I’ve washed my cloths three times and they still smell like a bong... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wash them in a baking soda based detergent OR pour a cup full of baking soda in your washer

Sponge off the non washable equipment with a strong baking soda mixed water

I do the laundry in my house and my wife always compliments when I do the whites with baking soda. It’s a miracle cleaner!

Burn them and inhale. It’s ok since you’ve already been exposed...
Now go home and get your shine box!

Soak your gear and clothes in cat urine. Guaranteed no more MJ smell.

        Works great polishing helmets too.
Where'd you learn that, Cheech? Drug school?

I’ll take weed stink over decomp or bedbugs anyday!

This is why I tell new investigators: suits and nice ties are for court; wear slacks, blazer and a $10 tie everyday. Don’t wear anything you cannot wash in soap and water or won’t be willing to throw out!

Patchouli oil scent is reminiscent of the “hippies" of the Haight Ashbury days and wiping your shoes at least twice upon leaving the Haight.

When we first moved out to our farmhouse there was a LOT of what we call IOWA ditch weed.

(Iowa had a history of raising marijuana during WW 2 for hemp crop--- so there is a lot of it growing wild in the state)

We spent years digging it up and burning it.

THEN we got a K9 drug dog a the prison....................................rather than have him it on me all the time the ditch weed patrol passed to my wife after the dog came in. AND when I did help the baking soda wash became standard

Arm & Hammer makes a laundry detergent that is sold in stores around me & I am sure everywhere

Try Arm&Hammer wash soda. It's similar to baking soda but a slightly different chemical, it is stronger. Put it in with detergent and let is soak 30 mins during the wash cycle. It gets rid of nearly every smell out there.

This goes under the heading of stupid moves. Being allergic to MJ stench and those industrial grade perfumes common to laundry detergent I've tried some pretty weird things to get rid of that smell. So over at the FD I was given some wet water surfactant to try. Safety and sanity hint: 1 tablespoon of that stuff is too much. Much too much too much. The washing machine looked like it had rabies and it took around 5 rinse cycles to get my clothes to stop foaming. Not sure if it was the surfactant or the repeated rinsings but it got rid of the odor.
