    My favorite is "You can't teach a pig to sing, it wastes your time and annoys the pig"

    I have an Uncle who is and has been an alcoholic for 30+ years. My mother tries to talk him into quitting and I just tell her that. All she does is waste her breathe and make him truly annoyed.
