Please review the thread again. Just because Rabbi blew it in shouldn't mean an automatic bannishment.

The thread was not unusual in any sense and although a little heated it was tamer than many.

Please rethink your action.

I agree. I don't see any reason for him getting banned. I was quite surprised. People ask questions or bring topics up and want to know the truth. We give them the truth and spell it out in ways they can understand and then they get banned. Meanwhile, people like Rabbi or Slowing Dee antangonize with their insistant questions on and on. Doesn't make sense.

That cant be why he got banned. Theres nothing at all worth banning sombody in that thread.

He got reported for rudness I guess thats a matter of opinion, but worthy of banning sombody, i dont think so.

i am not one to sign petitions in most cases and I dont even know or much care about either party involved, but it seems a bit silly to me.

Meh! It's how it works here. It's a reflection of real life, isn't it? The non-LE members come in here and push for an argument, then run crying to the Mods when someone tells them the truth. Sworn officers are so used to putting up with morons, the thought of reporting their posts never occurs to them.

Once again, an LEO gets banned, while Slowing Doodles, spambots like Melisa, and all the other anti-LEO's stay, adding no value what-so-ever.

Here's my question. Is Slowing Dee gonna buy any of the products advertised here? Attend any of the Conferences? I don't think so. Redders? Isn't he a recently promoted Sergeant? Maybe he has a say in what his department decides to purchase? Who exactly do they want to belong here? It doesn't seem to be Law Enforcement professionals.

I do think that the banning is now equal though. It's not like before when you'd report a troll over and over again and nothing would happen, while an officer would get banned at the drop of a hat. Now it seems people are getting banned right and left, and for the most part it's deserved. It's sad when it happens to someone like Redders, but I think we have to take the bad with the good.

I'd be surprised if it's completely automatic. I'm sure they at least read the post and make sure you're not being reported just for disagreeing on an issue.

IPB, VB, and BB, style HTML web forums have no feature that automatically enables a regular user to ban another user. A report notice gets sent to an Administrator or Super-moderator (if his account enables user bans), then the Admin gets a link to the post and the Users IP address is displayed under the name, then said Admin goes into the Administrators Control Panel and bans the user, for either a period of time, and or an indefinite I.P. ban. However you have to be careful with I.P. bans since multiple users may post from the same I.P. and you could lose 4 where you only wanted 1.

Also the user that was banned needs to check his posting rules tab at the bottom of the page:

If these are switched to may not, and off, then he's be banned for a good length. If only a few are turned off its kinda a slap on the hand. But the user should still be able to Lurk (view without being signed in) on the boards short of an I.P. ban. And use the private messaging system to communicate with Admins and Mods.

I've run a lot of forums in my day.

O.com runs on a Vbulletin engine, which is less exploitable than IPB(debatable now), and BB. Which is probably why the admins chose it for community control.
