  • HIRED!! (magic number 21)

Well it is offical. I am starting on monday. I graduate the academy on friday and monday morning I report for duty/ fto 0830. For those that don't know my woes I tried for 4 years and went though 20...yes 2 0 application processes and was booted out of the process every time.

Well a self sponsered academy and 5 months of hard work later I now have a job with one of the best opotrunities in Maryland. If you are having trouble getting hired just keep trying.

Like I said. This was #21 for me. And FINALLY it worked out. Of couse self sponsoring your self in MD is an extreme measure but it worked out. See you all out there!

Congrats! 21? Wow! You deserve an award! Where abouts in Maryland are you? I lived there for almost 20 yrs but recently relocated to Florida. Its a great state and I have many fond memories. My friend is with the troopers there. I think he likes his job very much. Good luck on your career!

Goes to show ya - with persistence, Vasoline and Duct Tape, you can do ANYTHING!

Way to go! Congrats, be careful and keep your mouth shut unless your FTO asks a question or unless you need to ask one.

And, remember there are no stupid questions - only stupid answers - usually tendered by Captains and above.

Congrats! Just curious, if you don't mind sharing what department you are working for?

Um, any idea why it took 21 tries? Or do they tell you why it's a "No" when you don't make it?

Well I was not a competitive applicant. I did have some drug use in my past as well as some juveniel criminal stuff. Never convicted but charges did happen.

Based on that I was not competitive. I was basicly asking someone to take me on as a liability becasue I had no way to prove my worth. By self sponsoring my way through a state certified academy and making good contacts I got a chance to prove my worht and show them by test scores and things like top grade averge, top driver for evoc, and top shooter, that I am a damn good investment for a department to make and I am NOT the stuiped punk teen I once was.

Its all about marketability. Its not just somthing for the private sector. Got to make yourself shine and get soem time between yourself and your "youthfull indescrections"

Thanks for being honest about your difficulties, P.I. I'm a wannabe-LEO, so I was really curious about what kept you out for so long.

Give 'em hell and stay safe.

Good Luck, my guess is that you have learned more from your past difficulties and will be a dedicated officer. Now, keep a positive attitude and prove that the person(s) who took a risk to give you a chance made the right call.
