Reports from the PERB panel deliberating over our raise for the period 2000-2002 suggest that the panel is contemplating an award that will again fail to address our basic economic needs. Not only will the raise be inadequate, but reports say that the panel will ask our members to work ten additional days. The evidence presented by the PBA to the PERB panel overwhelmingly demonstrated that New York City police officers are grossly underpaid, trailing as much as 35% - 40% behind other police departments. How can the panel even contemplate more tours?

The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, joined by the Uniform Firefighter's Association and other unions, will be holding a from noon until 2 p.m. to demonstrate against this possible injustice. We are encouraging participation from the public and will be leafleting at strategic locations within the City over the next two days. Your assistance in this effort will serve to heighten the public's awareness of this injustice. Contact your trustees and delegates to volunteer your time.

It is extremely important that we stand united and stand together at this time.

    Fraternally,

    Patrick J. Lynch
