OH how our british friends love to drive their police ambulances! J/k much love to anyone who wears a police badge without a gun. I understand your citicenry is not as armed as the US's are but still. Bad guys have guns everywhere you go and I wouldnt do the job without one.

Some of the most hideous striping in the entire world. Nice pics. Tough job over there in London. Even more so not being able to defend yourself against armed thugs. Hats off to all you who serve and protect Her Majestys Realm.

The police in mainland Britain usually have a vote
every five or six years as to whether they would
like to be routinely armed - in the last vote over
80% voted against routinely carrying a firearm.

They did however vote for an increase in the number
of armed support units, with one in ten officers in
London now armed, the police want to see all forces
              brought up to this level.

The use of tasers is also to be increased and more frontline
units are to be issued with tasers. The police are also
exchanging CS Gas for Pepper Spray which does not affect
tasers and can be used on animals.

There are also much better lightweight protective vests
being issued and more comprehensive self defence training.

As for the battenburg police livery - it is high
visability during night and day - and has been
                tested by Home Office Scientists.

Speed Traps in the UK are often operated by
                      private companies in unmarked vans.

Speed Traps can call in police cars hidden further
up roads in cases of excessive speed and the police
use a variety of unmarked cars.

Very cool thread. Its neat to see some of the aspects of law enforcement outside of North America.

                          Thanks.
