A German policewoman has snared a wanted criminal, after arranging a blind date with him.

A spokesman says police found the 29-year-old man's mobile phone number, and landed a date after flirting with him.

He says the officer pretended it was a wrong number, which then turned into a conversation, and eventually a date in a bar downtown.

The spokesman says the man not only fell for the officer's ploy, but turned up at the bar all dressed up.

She arrested him at the end of the date, surrounded by other officers who had been posing as fellow revellers.

The spokesman could not confirm whether there had been a mutual attraction.
