  • And another thing.....!

....so I go in to pick up my paycheck today. WTF?! I worked 72 hours this pay period, yet my paycheck only reflects 56 hours.

I point out this error to the secretary, who says 'Yeah, I thought you worked more, too.'

Again: WTF?! SHE is the one that transfers our timelogs to the pay sheets. SHE screwed up in transferring the information.

So I said 'Cut me another check for the difference.' She said 'I can't.'

'So what am I supposed to do?' I ask. She said 'It'll be added into your next paycheck 2 weeks from now.'

Does anyone ELSE work for a department like this? -

The poor payroll practices at my department have resulted in at least two class action law suits that have cost the city a great deal of money.

In a third law suit, a civilian employee sued because she was fired when she refused to cover up illegal payroll practices. She also won.

        Yep. It happens.

I once got a paycheck that was missing about 2300 bucks in overtime. I went to payroll and she said it was "lost in the computer" and that it would take at least two weeks to get it corrected, possibly three. When I asked her if it was with interest, she just laughed. It actually took two payperiods to collect it, a total of 4 weeks.

On the other hand, I went to school for 12 weeks and was drawing 70 bucks a day perdiem, I had to turn in a sheet on it every 2 weeks. At the end of the 12 weeks, any differences had to be worked out, sometimes you got more money, sometimes you hade to pay if it didnt zero out. When it was all figured out, I owed them 12 cents. I got 12 cents out of my pocket and tossed it on the desk of the clerk and was immediatley instructed that I had to write a check for 12 cents or it would be docked from my next paycheck. I laughed at her and told her to "get after it". About a week later my supervisor calls me up and asks when I was gonna pay my 12 cents. I told him that I already had offered to, but that I was told to write a check and I told them just to dock me. He laughed about it and told me he would take care of it. Would you beleive that 6 weeks later I had a charge of minus 12 cents on my paycheck ?'

I guarantee that one cost them more than 12 cents.

Sometimes you just have to shake your head in disbelief and move on...

They get you coming and going. My husband gets a car allowance each month and the government says that it's taxable. That will bring it to where it almost doesn't make the paymnent on the car much less the gas. Luckily, my car is paid for. But, he and the others are fighting this because they think the company should pay the taxes. They went up on insurance rates, cut back phone use and now this. He is NOT a happy camper.

            Shooter,
This happens to my hubby ALL THE TIME, well at least a few times a year.......and he works for "one of the top 100 employers in America". He always gets a paycheck for the difference by three in the afternoon, about five hours after his normal paytime. It's annoying because they can't just deposit it into our account like his "real paycheck" instead we drive 45 minutes from our house to pick it up & then drop it off at the bank after his 13 to 14 hour work shift. They usually compensate him with some small bonus though, usually gift certificates to regal cinemas or something equally impossible for the dad of 2 very young kids.

I'm going to see my Chief first thing Monday AM and make him aware of the situation...and a few other things. If I don't like what I hear, I may see what I've been paying my SSPBA dues for......

welcome to the dark ages of public service/gummint werk.

We cannot even get Direct Deposit. Well, we can, to ONE credit union, in the City. MY bank is 21 miles South of my house. My job is 18 miles north. Get the picture??

Now, since I'm SO well paid for my time, I usually HAVE to make the trip into town, then down to the bank, ON the day I get paid. Checks come out after 11:30, I hafta be back to work by 1600... it's a HUGE hassle.

We got bent backwards over the desk last contract negotiations. Were told "money (not much) or negotiate." If you want to change the contract, you're not getting the $$ because it will cost us to negotiate. Naturally the members voted for the small raises (and a new payscale which was great for new people, awesome for people who'd been there forever... and those of us in the middle got completely SCREWED.)

At any rate, we WILL be negotiating direct deposit in 2 years....

oh, and our comp time only carries for 60 days. Not allowed to save it up for vaca... so I'd be in trouble THERE too. AND, if you take comp or vaca in a week you had OT, the OT is straight time...

geesh... I could go on. I'm so glad we're all in this for the money...

Well, I was supposed to have off work today, but it's snowing, and I'm getting called in -- yay! Especially since I replaced my old tires, and I've got fresh traction

Anyway, I've been on overtime since 6:15pm last night, which means I'm already up about six hours for the week ... and I'll probably get another eight tonight, unless the new owners plan on closing early (they commute from Northern Virginia).

No... we don't have errors like that! In fact we have very few. The ones that do occur are usually due to an error on the officers part when the time is logged.
But now, because of THEIR error, they are carrying 18 hours over to the next paycheck. WHO'S going to pay those extra taxes / deductions???

That's O.K.... I already know the answer to that..

I had the reverse. They overpaid my base pay about 12 cents or so in each paycheck for over a year. They find THEIR mistake and then want me to pay it back in one lump sum!!
I told them "Why should I be penalized for your mistake?", take it out the same way you put the money in. They were ****ed because of the "extra accounting" it would take. Too bad.

I think all cities try this crap because most people are afraid of losing their jobs. At my old SO, they changed the accumulation policy so you could only carry 40 hours of sick leave and 16 hours of comp time. Anything over that was "use it (before the next period closes) or lose it." They actually couldn't understand why people called in sick. It made the Aux troops a little nuts covering all the empty shifts.

How often do you get paid? If you got paid once a week it would be about $6. Are they nuts? They want you to pay back $6 ??

Nah, that happened the FIRST snowstorm this year -- skidded into a guardrail. Busted up the fender, and broke my "sway bar" ... whatever the hell that is?

Anyhoo, it was dead slow. I took three deliveries -- got stiffed on one of them, what an [email protected]@hole ... it's SNOWING! -- and made $10 bucks. I also got six EXTRA hours of overtime!

Although some nutcase in a caravan came sliding into the parking lot and the only reason they didn't hit my Jeep was because they bounced onto the curb. *phew*
